Does anyone know if the spring plate from CPP is the same size as a stock plate? I welded bolts to mine years ago to install a sway bar but I'm going to remove the bar.

I'd think that they should fit just like the originals.

what about just cutting the nuts off the ones you have and cleaning them up with a grinder?

It's not out of the question. I must have thought I was building a race car back then. I really went for overkill with the welder and bracing. There's probably an hour's worth of cutting and grinding on each plate so for the $8 price tag on the plate I'm thinking it might be a good trade. I could probably sell off the '80 Blazer bar that's coming out to pay for the plates.

No more than they cost I'd buy the new ones and be done with it. As long as they are the same width as the spring and the hole is the right diameter you are good. I'd think that their "for dropped" axles is probably a sales pitch.

For me a couple of hours of work on the project time is a lot harder to come by than a few bucks is right now. It wasn't always that way and I have often spent a lot of hours on something to save a dollar or two but work schedule kills project time here right now until I retire.

Just out of curiosity... Why are you removing the sway bar?

The '80s K truck bar is not quite narrow enough to fit inside both frame rails. When I installed the bar I positioned part of the bar under the RH rail. I have to be careful on the roads here in New England because a large bump causes the bar to hit the frame. I've acquired an OEM bar from '57 Suburban to try. If this doesn't work as well as I'd like I have a larger bar from a '67 3/4 ton van to try. The van also used a beam axle but the ends of the bar attach differently.

Okay that makes sense... Not that you had to justify it but I'm shopping for a sway bar now on our '56 1/2 ton with a 95% stock leaf spring setup and I wasn't sure if there was a know issue with swaybars as I'm relatively new to the '56.

Suburban usually had sway bars from the factory. The trouble might be in finding one though.
A search shows that Ecklers has a 1 inch sway bar kit for TF trucks and one for AD trucks.

Yes, Ecklers and LMC have swaybars for our trucks. The cost is about the same between the two. I'm assuming these are bolt-in pieces on our trucks.
