so quick background. 1967 gmc shrt stepper
running a dbw 5.3 and 4l60e 2wd transmission from a 2004 yukon doner.
still got the shifter cable on it but dont think ill need it
i have the high hump with the factory hole for the og shifter.
looking into the lokar 23"(?) shifter but theres cable..... and theres mounted to the 4l60e
which is the better shifter? id like to stay away from cutting the hump too much but i dont want binding issues.
have you guys had better luck with other shifters?

Go with the lokar cable version. It requires less cutting and easier to install. Costs more though. I used solid linkage version that required more hump cutting. Costs more though.

Check out post #47. There wasn't much cutting here at all. It's one of the solid mount floor shifters. I realize it's on a different year truck, but it gives you an idea. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...51#post8945951

On my 68 I used a Lokar rod style. Worked well. I also had a high hump. Just cut a slot in the floor for the lever to swing thru.

I did the same as "LS short box" with a floor mount 23" Lokar in my '60 Apache. Only needed a slot large enough for the lever to clear and swing freely. I was concerned with noise, vibration and rattling from the trans mounted shifters. Worked out really well.

I should of said that before no noise or vibes. The shifter is a bit stiff but that's due to the trans detents not the shifter.
As a side note I have the Lokar cable shifter on my 98 wrangler LS6/4L60E swap and it's been great. 12 years on it and no problems.
