Re: 72 Cummins swap

Got the pump apart and found it just sticky. But while apart why not put a fuel pin in and gov spring. Just got it off the stand and finish installing it tomorrow

Re: 72 Cummins swap

Very nice! Yeah, this low sulfur diesel varnishes and can really cost ya a lot of coin. I've had a couple of p-pumps that I was saving that done this. It sucked for sure.

Thanks Dieselwrencher. Have you ever found any additive that really works?

2 stroke oil. 1oz per gallon. Read a lubricity test a while back where this worked better than most of the commercial "additives" out there. Run the cheap TCW3 rated stuff from Walmart.

Re: 72 Cummins swap

Ya running the stock pickup and sender. I got the factory lift pump on the engine and the Bosch VE pump with the 3200 gov spring and the hungry diesel fuel pin.

Haven't driven it enough to tell. Runs and drives fine on 1/4 tank.

Re: 72 Cummins swap

Sorry to bring this post back but what trans did you use? What engine mounts and crossmember as well? Im looking at doing a swap like this in my '72 K20 so 4x4 may change things. Id like to have an NP3500 or 4500 to my np205 tcase but not sure what adapters and all that I will need.

Re: 72 Cummins swap

I ran a mount and cross member from Autoworldmt. And am running a nv4500 with a 205. Had the t case bored to the big bearing and installed the larger input shaft and redrilled the 4500 rear housing to clock the t case correctly. And running the Dana 60 front and 70 rear.

Re: 72 Cummins swap

Dewey, glad to see you back on and the truck turned out beautifully! How does she ride as a short wheel base nose heavy rig? I have a guy that wants me to take his 69 D100 and convert it to a 4x4 and put a 12 valve in it. I'm leery he'll hate the ride afterwards.

Thanks! For the most part it drives fine but some of these country roads its like hearding cats trying to stay in your lane. Thinking about cross over steering. The worst part about the truck is the old man wants it back!1

I get that. My orange truck needs cross over steering. Due to the air ride in the rear and the push pull steering box, the motion of the rear suspension creates extra movement in the steering wheel. If you're used to it, it's no big deal. But if you let someone else drive it they are like WTF?

My door handle fell off the other day the thumb button. Anyone know of the best quality handles you can get aftermarket?

Re: 72 Cummins swap

I've had GSI door handles on my truck since they started making them and I like them. I've had 0 issues with them.
