93 saturn clutch
This board has such a wide area of knowledge that I think I will ask and see if anyone throws in their ideas.
1993 saturn sl2 DOHC. Clutch went bad and replaced gearbox+clutch and bearings. I went to start it up last night for first time and when I put the clutch pedal down to start the car the pedal went down about 1 or 2 inches and then there was a pop noise and the pedal went to the floor. I checked the shifter connections and pedal connections and all are intact. Now the pedal has no resistance at all. Oddly though when you let off the clutch pedal it pops right back up to normal height. I checked the mast cycl and it was empty. It was not like that before the clutch replacement and prior to replacing the clucth and gearbox the pedal was firm. This is a closed hyrdolic system. With the car off it goes through the gears ok. Any ideas what could have poped and why the pedal has no resistance now?

Re: 93 saturn clutch
I don't have a lot of technical knowledge on clutches, but I've had really good luck with the forums at www.saturnfans.com when I've had to diagnosis problems with my '97 Saturn. If your master cylinder is empty your fluid went somewhere though...have you noticed a leak anywhere? A pop may have been a fitting flying off or something. It may be worth checking out the line.

Re: 93 saturn clutch
Maybe The Clutch Fork Pop Off The Throw Out Bearing
But With The Slave Cly. Being Empty It Sound Like You Need To Bleed The System Out And Get The Pedal Back.== leaking internally. This is evident in that it may be hard to get the car in gear when the engine is running. And/or the clutch pedal has to be pressed almost to the floor before it disengages.

Re: 93 saturn clutch
Can you explain how to slave cylinder works. I think when you press the pedal it pushes the slave cyclinder out to the fork and presses the bearing? This is my first (Now last) clutch.

but I found the problem this afternoon. The slave cylinder came apart. So I am buying the Slave cylinder and master cylinder combo (pre-bled) and installing this weekend.

Re: 93 saturn clutch
FWIW I have found an easy way to bleed hyd. clutches. Lowes and other places sell a syringe for meat flavoring. cut the end off the "needle" and stick a piece of vacuum hose over it. then fill the syringe and install the plunger. put the end of hose over the bleeder, open bleeder and start pushing the syringe plunger. it takes a PITA job and makes it so simple its almost scary.
