any good info on 3500-hd trucks ?

now that we lost the web site for 3500-hd trucks were is a good place for these killer trucks ?

i scored a 01 with the 8.1 vortec and nv4500 5 speed trans .

most i can say is i drove it home 15 mins worth in town and WOW does it ride so much better than my 87 k30 in stockish trim does .

plan is new flatbed as the one on it is rusted out . trailer hitch for real truck duty . and 6 new tires on blasted and powder coated rims . then some new doors and some paint .

she has 80,xxx miles and was a local truck her whole life from sale at the dealer to me . plus a friend of mine use to work at the dealership it was sold from new .

Sucks that site went down. I'd say here, or GMT400.com, but I haven't seen anything on those trucks there. But, other than the motor and front/rear they are the same obviously. I'd love to find one of those trucks, mostly for the drivetrain. I have a 99 CCLB with the 5.7/4L80, needs more lol.

There isn't much 8.1 stuff out there or GMT 800 either. dieselplace.com has a gassers section and some 8.1 stuff and covers a lot of other drive train, body and interior stuff related to GMT 800's. Facebook has some 8.1 Groups

Re: any good info on 3500-hd trucks ?

That combo is rare, even for a 3500HD...

There is a dude on GMT400 that is kind of a guru on these. Other than that, I haven't seen much info out there.

Re: any good info on 3500-hd trucks ?

I have two of these trucks, one is a 92 service truck/welding truck. 350 nv4500.

Let me tell you, they only did a 5.7 one year because lack of power and that was a wise choice. It is probably the most anemic truck I’ve ever had power wise, not load wise.

The other is a 95 Monroe 4x4 conversion that I was going to swap frames, but it ended up being yard art...lol

Re: any good info on 3500-hd trucks ?

I would love to find a short 4wd conversion.

My neighbor, who I have know since long before I lived here`, is an ace mechanic. He has the nicest toys and he keeps them. For one, a '55 Chevy Belair with Torque Thrusts he's had on there since the '60s. He also restored a '31 Model A wide bed and has a turbo Trans Am. I won't list them all, but he also keeps a newer truck on hand, currently an almost new Duramax. He rarely drives that, but every day he drives a 3500HD to work. He drove this mid-90s one forever, a short flatbed, forever. I see now he picked up a newer fresher one. First he was running just the cab & chassis, and now he has a flatbed on it. Looks like a very clean one. I need to catch up with him to check it out... and see what's up with his old one

Re: any good info on 3500-hd trucks ?

I have my dads 98 now. I put a 4bt in it a few years back for him, to replace the 454. its a nv4500 truck. fixing a few details on it and hope to be using it again soon. taking off the flatbed and installing a nicer flatbed dump.
I also want to paint it, it was originally a highway truck so it was orange, then it got repainted to white, and it needs painted again, so I am thinking of going forest service green just to be different. anyone got a paint code for that color?
