Broken heater hose coupler extraction

I’m finally getting to hooking up the engine a year after bringing my truck home from the resto shop. I found the heater hose quick disconnect snapped. I have watched several videos to get an idea of how to proceed. Most of the videos show the Lisle 62200 removal tool. There is also a Napa version that looks more square peg shaped, and a tool that looks like a screw extractor. I’m considering trying the screw extractor. The other tools require pounding it in and from the videos it looks like the brittle coupler piece partially disintegrates from the hammering. Does anyone have any experience with any of these extractors?

Use the OEM one, and gently tap on it to seat it. Then back out your connector.

If you can't back it out, you can cut it from the inside with a small hacksaw blade. make a few cuts, then you should be able to get the pieces out. You would then need to vacuum out the debris or flush it out.

Re: Broken heater hose coupler extraction

I put penetrating oil on it for 3 days, then finally got the extractor. It came right out.
I watched a few videos of the hacksaw method and did not want to go that route. I also saw one video of the extraction kit from Lisle, but it looks like that is discontinued. I did find a tap that comes with drill bit, so if I have to do this on my other truck at least I know some options.
