In the pictures, the column in the front is a unrestored van column, the middle column is a factory truck tilt column & the one in the back is the restored van column made into a truck column. Notice in the front picture the length of the shaft on the van column is longer & the neutral safety switch is in the middle of the column compared to the truck tilt.
Also the wire connector on the van is flat & not curved like a horse shoe. All changes on the converted van column were made to make it a
truck column.

Re: Automatic tilt steering column

Nice looking column. What is done to van column shaft to make it shorter. Also what is done to move the neutral safety switch. Thanks

I take the shaft to a machine shop that has a CNC machine, they cut it to the truck length & then cut new splines in the end of the shaft. The neutral safety switch is located to the truck location & the tube is cut out. The metal where the new hole for the neutral safety switch was cut is then moved to the hole where the old hole was & welded in the tube. The shift tube on the inside of the column is then made like the truck so the truck neutral safety switch can be used. I spend extra time to make these a clone to a real truck tilt.

Re: Automatic tilt steering column

Received column and it looks amazing. If anyone is looking for a column and Don has one listed don't hesitate to buy one from him.
