Brake parts recommendations? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi all, been awhile since I've been on the board and that the 'Burb has been driven much. New brakes are in order, especially wheel cylinders/hardware. Any recommendations of where to source new, quality (preferably U.S. made) parts? I've looked at the vendor list - some links are apparently old and outdated, the vendors I've looked at with valid links show parts, but no info as to brand, country of origin, warranty, etc. Any recommendations, experiences, info, etc., is much appreciated. Truck is a '67 Suburban, 292/THM. Thanks.

Just to clarify are you planning on rebuilding the factory system or to upgrade to disc brakes?

Looking to rebuild the factory system - I'm good with the 4 wheel drums for now. A few folks on the pick-up board have sourced their brake supplies from Rock Auto. Searching wheel cylinders there, it appears there's more choices for the pick-up than the Suburban. Does the Suburban use different brake hardware than the pick-ups or is everything pretty interchangeable?

I know of no differences between the pickup and Suburban brakes components as far as replacement parts. That being said it is possible the higher weight of a Suburban may have called for a larger drum size than say a half ton, 250 six with a 3 on the tree, short bed pickup. A quick check of your drum sizes should help you zero in on the correct parts. Or confirm if anyone has swapped parts around in the last 50 years.
I have had have good luck with Raybesto and NAPA's premium line of parts.
I recommend verifying the bore sizes of the new wheel cylinders match the old ones when you install them.

Just a heads up, if your truck is equipped with the Heavy Duty front brakes, you will be having a hard time sourcing rebuild parts. Went thru this with my burb..
