Brought Another One Home

My wife and I have been after a green 71-72 for a while now to add to the collection. Yesterday we went to look at this green and white swb highlander truck and we struck a deal. She’s gonna need a lot of work but the plan is to make some minor improvements to make a driver and plan on a frame off down the road some time. The truck was bought new in Kernersville, NC and still has the original protect o plate and invoice from the purchase which is always cool to see. I’ll post the link to a build thread once I tear into it.

Happy thanksgiving everyone!!

Re: Brought Another One Home

Nice purchase. I love the simple option list, pretty much what most people in our area picked out. I also like the receipt, tells the story. Adjusted for inflation, that pickup would be a bit under 20 grand in todays money. Nothing to sneeze at in 1972. Especially, since you could pick up used older trucks for a few hundred or less. I know you are glad they sprung for that one, great find. Congratulations.

Re: Brought Another One Home

Thanks everyone, I am really excited to tear into it. It is certainly a unique truck being a Highlander A package truck. It was originally a 3 on the tree truck but oddly enough they put a black dash pad and steering column in it. I guess they never made a parchment dash pad so they just put black in all highlander trucks.

It has its fair share of rust and issues but it shouldnt take much to get it back on the road and mostly put together correctly. The biggest help will be sanding off the spray can primer and re-installing the full side trim.

More pics to come soon

Parchment dash pads and columns were made.
I had a 72 GMC with both back in the 90's.
Camper edition, 4x4 , air, auto, ochre in colour with parchment interior.maybe it was a Canadian thing.

Re: Brought Another One Home

What a find! I'd hang on to that one for sure. I can't make out if it's a 613, or 618 trim code. I met some nice folks in Maggie Valley NC that owned a couple swb highlander "project" trucks. I don't imagine this would be one. Looking forward to more on this one. Enjoy!
