Dinger's Build thread
68 C-10 6 cylinder with 3 on the tree, original paint. No options, None, noda. My first goal is to repair all the rust damage. When I was looking for a truck I thouhgt I would do a slight drop and a big block. With this truck I might just return it to original. Or I might end up somewhere in the middle. We will see.
Here is Dinger on the day I picked him up.  Here is why he is called Dinger. Wife saw this and branded the truck for life  She is pretty solid but there are rust issues. Cab has all the normal rust issues Cab corners, rockers inner and outter, floor, kick pannels. I have a copy of EB fabman DVD cab repair. I am not sure about this fire wall any tips?

Drivers Door, The skin did not look to bad from the outside. It was not connected ot the inner door on the bottom. There was about a 1/2" area where there was no metal. Thanks to this sight. I found a thread on take the door apart. Saved me hours I am sure
 Restoration is about being sure so..  I test fitter the replacment pannel. I also cut cardboard forms of the outer shape of the door for reference later.  All bad metal goes bye bye  I am not a skilled welder, no way could I weld to that.  First test fit  I didn't get very far this weekend, had a swap meet and installed some wall cabinets in the garage. I will update this thread as I go. Normaly I its weekends only. Thanks Pug for turning me on to the swap meet. I found some .030 cut off wheels I have been looking for.

Did not get very far this weekend. I added some more cabinets so my body tools are not laying in boxs. These pannels really do not match the original. It will take some tapping and relief cuts to make this all line up. Don't expect this to be quick. this is my first attemp at body work.
 I need some warner weather. Its too cold to use the rust treament I have on the rest of the inside of the door.

Todays progress was stopped short due to me waiting for 24 hours for the rust converter to work. I mocked up the complete door and used sheet metal screws to mount it all up. At final assembly the sheet metal screws holes will be opened up to be come plug welds
  Templet check  Tomorrow I spray on the Encapsulator and weld thru primer and let the welding begin.

YES, put drain holes. Do you want to do this again? Drain holes have been around since the forties and maybe earllier.

Have you figured out what to do with that firewall? I have the same problem. Best thing I can come up with is to cut out rust and fit new metal to the hole.

A few hours after I posted the last pics we got hit by a bad wind storm. As you can see by the early pics Dinger was stored in a Costco pole tent thing. Well a snapped steel cable and a few bent 1.5 inch pipes and it is no more. During the the storm I had to go out and cut the tarps off the frame so it would stop beating the hell out of the truck. So now dinger is covered with a tarp amd my dang 1-1/2 car garage has my Camaro, tractor, lawn mover and snow blower in it and no room to work. And I am at near zero Budget. Aggggg
And the topper, as we where in a rush to move the stuff from the twisted mess to my garage my daughter knocked over the mocked up door. Afterwards as I was looking at the nice new dents in the passager side fender my wife says "Can't you just get behind it and beat it back out" Oh man they really are cluless

Everything is a little cramped but back to it. I tacked in the inner door in today.
Had to make a ton of relief cuts. I went thru two flap disks already.

Reggie is on guard at all times. 120 Lbs of 1/2 Rottie 1/2 Doberman. I can rest at night knowing no Cat will ever get near my truck. People he likes.
 Hopfully I will finsh the metal work on the door next weekend. I may go after a fender next. Trying to hone some skillz before I go after the Cab.

Door is just about done metal work wise. It will need some putty/glass to smooth things out. The inside has a nice coat of encapsulator and Zinc based weld thru primer. I did have a few issues:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=284479   Man those flapper disks can remove some metal. I burned right thru the new pannel and had to fill weld to fix it. Seems like I lean a lot form every pannel. I am looking forward to the next door. I think I can do a lot better.
