Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Funny running across this thread. I was just given a c20 by my buddy that owns a shop. He bought it for the 350 in it they installed a couple years ago. The truck needs a rear end from what I've been told. I got the truck for parts But I hate to see it stripped out just to get my long term short 1/2 build.

Incredible job! You brought that one back to a better time. A suggestion to lock in the "look". IMO your truck is worth the "FET" (front end treatment) : Black paint behind grill and off white paint surround strip around the perimeter.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

I agree - that truck looks beautiful, and I've had one in that color scheme before - it really grew on me. Also agree with factorystock, it would be a crowning touch to put the white surround and black background behind the grille. It's a detail that is often overlooked and makes a huge difference (to me anyway! Ha. Some people prefer it left full body color, but I like the original look of the floating grille). Again, looks like that truck came a LONG way from where it started - would love to see some more pics!

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Thanks for the compliments fellas. I agree about the front end detail, I may need to add that. I don't remember why we didn't, I guess I was getting lazy by the time we painted. My daughter and I spent about a year and a half(off and on). It's certainly not perfect, but we made a lot of memories (and mistakes)along the way. All in all we had a great time sooo...I picked up a 58 Apache in January of this year and we are at it again.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Thanks for the additional pics - that's very cool to have made some memories in the process. If you made mistakes, don't admit to it(!) because nobody would be able to tell - truck is ready for the show! Nice family shot in the back too. Even the heelers look like they're havin fun. Mine liked my blue truck too

Nice find! Hard to find one more original! Very common period aftermarket tanks. There seems to be an interesting pattern of Custom Campers originating from the Pacific Northwest ( Washington, Oregon ) , could it be people wanted an escape from all that rain?

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

I am very impressed with the originality. Trying to preserve as much as possible. This truck sat for a long period. Every major system needs rehab. Just rebuilt original carb. Need to rebuild the original starter. Brake master cylinder and wheel cylinders will follow. I am taking pictures. Going to start a project thread soon.

I agree, there do seem to be many C20s and custom campers for sale. The location has helped to preserve them. I think you are on to something about owners wanting to get out of the consistent rain. I was stationed at Ft Lewis, and for me, 90 days of sunshine per year is not enough.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Not sure how I missed this thread after all these years, but here is my contribution, Ol Blue. He is currently getting body work done, and paint. Keeping the same color, only thing I am adding is side trim. Since I got him, I have added a built 350 to replace the one I blew, a 700R, and a Dana 60. He is my pride and joy, and I can't wait to be driving again soon.

Wow, new paint, I assume you color matched to original special order. This deserves another solo photo. Glad you kept the original 16" wheels and caps too.

Here's a solo pic. Only one i have so far.

Yes, color matched to original special paint. We preserved the truck to original as much as possible. Fixed the rust, and repainted as is, with original dents and all. The recovered seat should go in tonight. Under hood and interior paint left original. Only painted because of rust and previous owners wife paint brush job.

I've been busy with a barn/shop addition. I will post a link to a seperate thread later.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

I'm getting my inherited '71, 3/4 out of storage after 12 years(!) and I'm glad to see others still like the original look. I'll be looking here for advice and information a lot in the near future. When I get some better pics I'll be sure to share them.

I've loved this 65 C20 my whole life!

last trip back to the farm before dad passed and my boy got to see him

when I was a teenager shooting my first muzzle loader, poor old truck sitting outside in the snow

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

thank you! 84-85 I think, somewhere around there.. that hair!

couldn't find it today but I have a picture of me toddler age with the truck barely visible in background..

I'll look for it later, my folks didn't take a lot of pictures back then, especially farm equipment just sitting around

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Well I've come upon this a bit late. I like a 3/4 ton over a 1/2 ton myself. The former is a truck and the latter is a sedan with a bed. Don't get me wrong, I have both. It's just easier to use the 3/4 ton as a truck. None of mine are show vehicles. I'm too poor for that kind of nonsense. In fact, I'm seriously considering the heresy of rebuilding the wood bed in my Chevy with plywood. 1" of course. Paint it both sides with bed liner and call it good. Here's a recent pic of my Chevy:
