Re: Took my truck in to get cut up!

I see plenty of shortbeds on Ebay and other places everyday. Why not just get a REAL shortbed and fix it up. I like the longbeds myself. Hate to see them get chopped up. Just my opinion.

Re: Took my truck in to get cut up!

It looks like you switched left bedsides. Are you going to fill in marker light?

It all looks good. I remember the "circus" wagon and it was always so popular. Yours has the "I'm building a killer truck on a budget" look. This is something everyone should admire.

Enjoy it!!

Re: Took my truck in to get cut up!

Travis, the truck gets the attention of many people- if only to AVOID it!

67Chevyredneck- it's pretty fun to drive now, and much quicker than it used to be.

Bob, I only have about 1-1/2" or whatever the normal width is. It looks perfect.

Bob, I did switch bedsides since this one is in much better shape and the best part is that it was given to me years ago by another board member. Eventuallly, I'll have the marker light filled in along with the in-cab tank hole, the door handle holes, the radio hole, all the holes in the floor from various seats, the holes in the firewall that I no longer need, etc....

BJ, you have every right to your wrong opinion. Actually, this was a complete beater and had lots of dents in the previous version so I didn't feel bad at all about giving it a little plastic surgery. It was cheaper and more affordable for me to do it this way, step-by-step rather than just outright buying someone else's project. Now my Camaro-that's a different story!

Some goodies I still have to put on are the chrome wing windows, the chrome headlight buckets, the chrome grill moldings and I'm considering having the bumper shaved and rechroming it.

Thanks guys for encouragement on this labor of love, or rather the dastardly dealings of a madman! Dr. Frankenstein's monster lives! Hmmmm, I may have just come up with a new name for it....

Btw, I don't have any access to welding supplies so I'm looking for someone to do some welding for me if there's anyone so inclined.

Yes, there have been a couple threads on that. Most recently a guy in Texas did it and it turned out real nice. And some have shortened the long bed floor too, with great results.

Re: Took my truck in to get cut up!

I noticed that I hadn't updated this when I got some more work done back in January.

Blue'72 aka Travis PM'd and asked if I was still looking for someone to do some bodywork welding on my truck. I was indeed, and we ended up making arrangements for me to come over to his place and he helped out with a few things. Thanks again Travis!!

Re: Took my truck in to get cut up!

My projects for when I get back home are to soundproof the interior, put chrome wing windows on, detail the engine compartment, replace front & rear bumper, replace the grill with chrome components instead of the aluminum.

Re: Took my truck in to get cut up!

Hey Brad- your truck looks great! Definitely a step in the right direction. I have a couple of questions about your rear tank setup, if you don't mind...

How far past the rear of the frame does it extend? Did you modify the frame at the 'panhard bar' crossmember at all? Did you ever get the hidden hitch installed- if not, do you think it will fit?

Thanks -Chris

Edit: Found it- LINK Thanks!

Nice truck, it's good to see another Oregon truck being fixed up... even if it is a fleetside.

Brad, Ron from Zillah here. Your truck looks good. When I converted my "69 I figured I made a $2,000 truck a $10,000 truck. When are you getting it painted?
