Shift lever play

hey everyone,
i'm trying to figure out why there is so much play in my shifter column...
stock 1964 auto powerglide.
i think it's this device here.. any advice?

You need to have some one move the lever back & forth & watch were the lost motion is.

HAHAHA!!! i totally believe that too... everyone on this forum is top notch in my book.
i'll find someone to help me out with that tomorrow. i think it'll only cost me a couple beers.

any ideas on why i have so much play with my shifter lever?
