? 1 barrel Rochester or change to 2 barrel?

From new member. Merry Chrismas. My ? is, I have a single barrel rochester carb on a 66-250 gmc/chevy engine inline 6. For $40. I could rebuild the carb, or should I change it to a 2 barrel of some brand. I won't be putting more than 2000km per year on the car as it is more for show. The body is a fibreglassed Duesenberg, the car will not be used for speed. It has a hard top and a soft top. What advice do you have for me and why regarding the carb? Thanks and enjoy the holidays. P.S. It was a 1/2 ton pickup.

Welcome to the forum. If you're not putting many miles on it, a carb upgrade is not really necessary. Upgrading could introduce additional problems you'd just as soon avoid. Things like linkage connections, adapters, leaks, correct sizing, fitting the air cleaner, etc.

The old one barrels are as easy to rebuild as anything you'll find. Just take your time, work in a very clean environment, and follow the instructions carefully regarding float settings. Protect your eyes with a face shield while using the carb cleaner. It helps to have good light, and perhaps use something like a cookie sheet covered in aluminum foil so none of the small parts end up on the floor. (The aluminum foil keeps the pan from getting ruined).

Good luck.

markeb01. With regards to upgrading my carb, you've made my decission easy, as I did not consider the linkage, adapters, sizing and the other things involved in making a change. I see a rebuild in my future. Many thanks. Merry Christmas.

If you have any questions about the model B 1bbl, let me know. Have quite a bit or material on the carb and have been in a few of them, including mine last week when the idle vent tube which is pressed in fell out...loads of fun.

Re: ? 1 barrel Rochester or change to 2 barrel?

Thanks for the invite to ask more ?s, if I need to. I looked at your photobucket pic's 1-37& the other albums as well. Pic# 1, is this the same truck as the red one, as I don't see the indent for the spare on the red one, nice job mounting the tire on the blue one. Pic #5 this looks like a barrel with manuel choke. Very nice job on the truck bed box. I am not a member of photobucket and was unable to "like" or to comment on, but I am thinking of joining. I did find this site " newagemetal.com" from which I was able to print out complete diagrahms for carbs from 1932-1980 along with tune up engine specs as well. No sign up needed. I am going to post this site so others might make use of it. Thanks, and Merry Christmas.
