stainless door window frames?

Does anyone know if any door window frames for the 47-50 trucks are made of stainless steel? I have a chopped 50 that I am deciding which way to go for window frames for the doors. It would be a lot easier to chop stainless frames and reweled them than to have to rechrome a set of steel frames.
Thanks in advance!
Jon

Re: stainless door window frames?

I have never seen repro stainless. You are saying the one on the outside?

I am not positive they ever made the inside ones in stainless.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

The framework I am looking for is the one that attaches to the glass itself not the door.

I don't know if this is what you mean but I bought these stainless ones at a junkyard for $20 for the set. The truck was so rusty I didn't need tools to remove them. The guy said "that chrome is in nice shape for as old as they are".

Re: stainless door window frames?

I don't remember ever seeing the piece around the glass IT's SELF in stainless. That doesn't mean that they don't exist though.

I'd agree on the stainless, my son or my buddy can tig the stainless easy enough. If I can drag my buddy away from his girlfriend long enough he is fully capable of welding anything that exists that can be welded. The man welds up mega micron stainless filter screens for processing plants.

Re: stainless door window frames?

I think he's talking about the c-channel that goes around the door window glass.

As far as I know, these were only available painted steel. The inner and outer trim pieces that actually attach to the door were stainless if the truck was a deluxe model, but painted otherwise AFAIK

You might try contacting Joe at Mother Truckers in Tucson and ask him. He's forgotten more than I know about AD trucks. He posts in the Classic Parts Talk website once in a while under 'Deadzonetruckin' and in the Facebook Chevy 3100 group. The last contact info I had for him was mothertruckeraz@aol.com

Thats exactly what i was referring to, sorry if I used the wrong term for the pieces. I don't know if they ever originally offered them but see that the aftermarket window assemblies can be ordered in chrome or black trim. Thanks for the lead!

Re: stainless door window frames?

Original trucks had black painted frames around the window glass . Never seen a stainless one in original . Who knows what Sheena and Twan did.

Re: stainless door window frames?

I have some original glass and frames laying around here somewhere. I'll pull the glass out of them and send them to you if you'll pay the shipping and are not in a big hurry. PM me if interested. Wife is running the place like a Russian gulag and my escape attempts have all been foiled. The only redeeming factor is she cooks when she's bored - I've never eaten better!
