Removing pitman arm from center link

I'm having one heck of a time trying to remove the pitman arm from the center link on my 69 C10. Closest size puller I have doesn't grab enough iron to work. Pickle fork doesn't do any good and I'm afraid it will mess up the rubber.

I've done it twice before on this truck and don't remember having problems. I'm thinking my next step will be holding a body dolly on one side and smacking the other side with a sledge hammer. Any other ideas?

Re: Removing pitman arm from center link

The puller pictured above works to pull the pitman arm off the steering box sector shaft. It's easy peasy. My problem is the center link (a.k.a drag link) end of the pitman arm.

Won't be able to work on it until Wednesday when I'll try the old hammer dolly method. But I'm open to other ideas.

Re: Removing pitman arm from center link

Sometimes two pickle forks will work. One from each direction. May require two BFH (hammers). If you are not reusing the joint some heat applied to the OD can work wonders.
