Rear Sway Bar

I don't think we got Nissan Pathfinders over here back then although they may have been called something else. IIRC we just got the Nissan Patrol and Terrano. The Pathfinder name only started to be used by Nissan here about a year or so ago.

what size u-bolts do i need to fit the axle tube? thanks

Here is a pic of the Pathfinder bar. It takes 3" muffler clamp. You have to elongate the hole in the clamp to get it round the axle tube. I will take some more tommorrow.

If you go to the orignal post about my install you have to have some 1" spacers on each frame rail. I had 2" ones cut. I had to cut them in half. I stilll have the other halfs.

Hey big al, I got that same kit but haven't put it on yet. Curious why you didn't but it on top of the trailing arms? That way it wouldn't be hanging as low to catch stuff right?

I have one too. Have been wondering if mounting on top of trailing arms matters or not. I think that I would like it on top. But instructions show mounted on bottom. Any suggestions.

I was thinking I would like it on top as well. I looked at the instructions as well and see that its under the arms. I might try it both ways if I ever get it installed...-20 degree weather keeps me in the house!

I would be curious which is better out of the ones that mount to the arms and the ones that mount to the rear end. Anyone?

This is perfect for us leaf spring rear suspension guys, but where do the front ends mount to the frame?

i got the CPP bars for my 72 burb 3/4 ton 2wd factory height. it did not have the factory front bar and installing that 1-1/4 bar (bigger than the stocker) really made a night and day difference when coming to corners (it is stable and predictable now). installing the complimentary 1-1/8 will balance it front to rear, help keep the trailing arm system more aligned (doing poly bushings on the trailing arms and track bar too) and really make a difference when i have a big heavy trailer hitched up. the burb has more weight up high in the back than a pickup and thus more body roll, but any rear bar is better than no rear bar in any vehicle. front bar needs to be stiffer (aka bigger) but closer in size is better.

i put 87-89 lesabre t type sway bars on my 89 lesabre 4 door limited. went from 1-1/16 to 1-1/4 on the front and 1/2 to 3/4 inch on the rear. even though the rear got a bigger percent increase, the car still had too much under steer. a 1 inch bar would have been much better but the factory prefers under steer because it is safer for average joe drivers (you don't spin around backwards). i put the rear bar on first and i liked the balance but it still handled better overall once the bigger front bar was in.

if my memory serves me right it said to install it the way I did.... now it is long gone as I upgraded my rear trailing arms and I was not going to drill them now the truck handles even better than it did..

Big al, you installed it how it shows in the instructions. I am curious to know a little more in detail when you say that the truck handles even better now than it did...is that because of the new rear trailing arms? removal of the rear sway? Did you notice a difference when you had it on your stock setup once you put the sway bar on? Now I am really questioning myself for buying it...

when I put the sway bar on the truck it felt stiffer on the side to side, keep on mind that I did not replace any of the trailing arm bushings. Now with the brand new trailing arms with urethane bushings it feels really nice and stiff, I had also added a front sway bar which is still in the truck.

If I was replacing the trailing arms I would not buy a rear sway bar only the front and if I was just going to rebuild the original arms with new bushings I would add the sway bar. The new arms are a square tubing one piece vs the stock style which is two halves so there is naturally more flexing if this makes sense.

Thanks big al. I am sticking with my stock rear trailing arms (for now), so that gives me a little better piece of mind about having spent the money. Now I need to get them put on!

Here’s a question on this subject.
While members have said the late 80s Camaro/Firebird sway bars fit perfectly,
Will one off any of the other “Sport Models fit, width wise? (Like Impalas, Tahoes, Escalades? )
Just curious.
I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been to a yard since last year, but I’m going to be soon.

This is the most effective method of attaching a torsion bar. Pivot points must be attached to frame and end of bar attched to either side of axel.

Do you remember what year Pathfinder you got the bar off?
