Mugbugs

Mudbugs, it's what's for dinner. Suck the heads and pinch the tails.

You've got it good in Maine. Lobster!!!

We had a fundraiser at my lodge and they flew in Maine lobster. If someone tries to tell you that there's no difference then they're full of it. Maine lobster is the best. I can only imagine how good the crawfish is.

My buddy has two "Lobstah" boats. He also has a scallop license. I plow his driveway. I love the barter system. The lady down the road has cleaned crabmeat picked off the shell for $25 a pint.

I love them but they're a PITA to eat. If you're not hungry when you start peeling them...you will be by the time you peel enough to eat.

I ate a lot of bugs when I rode my old Triumph Bonneville. I can't say that I was hungry but I got em anyway. Not so much on the Harley... Go figure.

I've always had a love/hate relationship with shellfish. It's great. I love it. But it's a pain to cook and as mentioned it can be a pain to eat. Picking a crab is no fun. When I cook scallops they are either undercooked or they're hockey pucks. They will not cooperate.

The funny thing about lobster or stuff like that is who was the first person to look at those ugly things and think "I want to eat that' They musta been really hungry.

I like crawl daddies but I like a lot of other shellfish better. I have a thing for mussels. The first micro-brew pub that opened in this area had a chef from New Orleans who did Cajun dishes. They had a happy hour where they served endless crayfish. I used to go to that right often.

I always said that about oysters. I mean there's an art to even opening one and you need a tool. They don't open easy. Then I saw a video of a sea gull dropping one on a rock until it broke. I guess the early humans saw that video... I mean, saw that actually happen. That was a damn hungry sea gull, that's all I can say!!

I don't care for oysters. My wife loves them and is always trying to get me to eat them. Maybe because they are considered an aphrodisiac and I need all the help that I can get.

I'd be down for that endless Crayfish and beer. Oh yeah. All day long. Bring it on.

It's weird if you think about what we eat. Really think about it. What it actually is. It can be kinda gross.

For example. I love Lengua tacos. Lengua is a cows tongue. That's pretty disgusting when you think about it. I don't want to even look at a cows tongue let alone eat it but I'll eat it every chance I get.

Re: Mugbugs

Speaking of Cajun food, I was in Ville Platt, LA with aforementioned 1st Sgt. and we went in to a wonderful restaurant. Good thing he spoke French because not a soul spoke English. The special of the day was "ponce" I did not know what it was but had two helpings because it was delicious. Guess what it is? "Ponce is a sausage-like dish made from ingredients sewn up in a pig's stomach. It's a classic Cajun dish" Johnny Laughed his you know what off when I discovered what I was eating. That was back in the 90's. I would eat it again if I was ever back that way. I quit going down that way the Agent Orange took Johnny out.

Re: Mugbugs

Yeah, you have to not be thinking much about what is what that you eat or you might end up joining PETA . Head to hoof it's all called meat. That's all I need to know!

It's funny how you only eat parts of a crawfish, lobster, even shrimp. We cut, tear, rip, suck to get some meat from these things and it's even a delicacy. But heaven forbit you eat any other part but the tail with Crawfish and lobster and with shrimp, "You ate the tail???". There may be no meat, but it isn't going to hurt you. It's good fiber, probably nourishing.

I got myself some crawfish last night. Etouffee!

Re: Mugbugs

I like them but I hate the amount of work it takes to get the small amount of meat.
Same with crabs. Back in the day my buddies and I used to go to OC Maryland to the all you can eat crab shacks. After a while I just stopped eating because I got tired of working so hard for my food. LOL

I have a hammer and a nutcracker thing for crabs and an oyster shucker and can't remember the last time that I used them. Too much work and mess. Give me an old chili dog that was left in the car instead.

Re: Mugbugs

I'll sit and pick crabs however long it takes to get my belly full to enjoy that delicacy like no other. Grandpa always said nothin' good comes easy. I order pizza when I want to eat like right now. Crabs are more of a social event. Get friends together, pick, chat, sip, and eat. My complaint is my beer gets warm, being so busy picking. the crab tastes so good I have to remind myself about the beer sitting there. I quit eating when the salt gets to my lips. Then the beer regains my attention.

It's not much work to me eating a crab. I don't use any tool at all. Sometimes I'll need a mallet when the claws won't crack using my thumbs or all the meat doesn't come out when you break off the moving part of the claw and pull out.

Maybe you guys don't know how to do crabs right...steamed with Old Bay seasoning. And I'm talking blue crabs, of course.

I'm thinking Paul should get together with Dale in his corner to eat 3 day old hot dogs. Dale could listen to Paul and try to make sense of it while Paul tries to explain until it's time to get another beer. a summit of sorts
