Re: Artificial Intelligence

That’s helpful. It IS a highly sophisticated computer program. It WILL take over a lot of jobs. But it WON’T be self aware like some of the sci-fi movies. Aka it’s NOT artificial “intelligence”. Still scary though.

This was the part I was trying to wrap my head around as to how could it think say like a human. You are right it still has to be programed just like a car computer, without human interaction/programming it's worthless. Be interesting to see what the so called "Dark Web" and the scammers do with it.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

A guy at work is really up on this subject.

He was telling me some of this stuff

If I walk by the tv when my Wife is watching the evening news,
I want to start yelling at the Tv
The times are changing.
My wife says I should have been born back in the 50's.

Now about this AI stuff

According to some people
This is used in your Bank/card transactions at stores and online.
This is used on your License plate on your vehicles.
This is used in your phone location.

About the phone deal for example,
For those that have FB,
Here is a Real example of this.

Have you ever been talking to someone at work,
Or just out and about that you are not friends with on FB.

Then when you visit FB they are in your Suggested friends list.

Makes you go Hmmm.

I spend cash for most of my transactions.

They still know where I am at though.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

I've got one for you. Too many "cowinkydinks" like that have happened here in my house.
We have a 2007 model Sanyo TV
An older windows 7 computer
And my LG phone (straight talk)
No cable no other crap.
So she watches youtube some and suggestions for videos would come up a day or 2 after we had talked about something off the wall.
So. I tried an experiment. I told her that when I was a kid, I was really fasinated with the Loch Ness Monster". Now there is one you haven't heard about in 40 years.
It took 2 weeks but there was a video on the "recomended" line about the Loc Ness Monster. Only mentioned it once. No Facebook either.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

If you have an Alexa or Echo device (I call them spies), ask them if they are always listening. You get a very lengthy/legalese reply. Pay attention they say they only “record” when you address them. But I have no doubt they are always listening (no denial there), and I’m sure they consider keeping data about your conversations is not “recording” in the strict sense.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

I'll take any kind of intelligence that I can get because I have none.

And as far as something being artificial. Hmm. Fake boobies are artificial. I can live with that too.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

.

Was riding around town with my kids in the truck, just the 3 of us. My daughter asked me what type of car was next to us at a stop light. I looked over and said it's a Jeep...Wagoneer. She says oh I like it. We went on with our day.

The next day I start getting adverts for Jeep Wagoneer on FB feed.

The only device in the truck with us was my iPhone in my pocket.

This is NOT AI. It is simply a listening device in my pocket parsing out the dialogue it monitors. There is no intelligence associated with the microphone or the hardware/software that is munching up the data it collects from my pocket. It's just lines of code written for the express purpose of picking through a bunch of textual data and extracting potential marketing targets for use in advertising. This isn't AI. It is scary, I'll agree, but it isn't something that is free thinking, forming opinions or is self aware.

I view the recent pumping up of the AI phenomenon in the media as an attempt to get us all to shift our understanding of the subject more toward a finished, polished and functional thing rather than what it actually is. That being not at all ready for prime time. It's the same thing they did when they wanted us to start thinking in terms of "the cloud" when it comes to data storage and compute resources. "The cloud" is nothing more than a conceptual representation of that which was already established and functional in the tech space. What they wanted was to represent it as something new and fresh, revolutionary even. When in reality, it was a marketing stunt to sell services.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

The cloud is just storage (servers) at a common location outside your home. Nothing really that extraordinary about it. Your PC becomes more of a display. It’s more efficient. Same with the AI discussion, it’s all marketing hype.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

Here is an Interesting article in this link About AI in our devices.
Link: https://www.techradar.com/news/what-...%20and%20Alexa

What does AI in a phone really mean?

Machine learning is used in a lot of ways in our phones
Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most important recent developments in mobile phones.
You’ll hear the term all the time if you follow tech closely enough.

But it’s rarely mentioned in relation to what is most recognizably AI,
namely digital assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Why not?

Google and Amazon want these assistants to seem breezy and approachable. There are a few too many stories of AI stealing our jobs and preparing for world domination for it to be beneficial to their image.

Dedicated AI hardware
Several new and recent phones have hardware optimized for AI.
These chips are usually called a neural engine or neural processing unit.

Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa

Voice-driven services like this, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, are the most convincing applications of AI in phones.
But you won’t see many mentions of the term AI from Amazon or Google.

Amazon calls Alexa “a cloud-based voice service”.
On the front page of its website,
Google does not describe what Assistant is at all.

They want us to use these digital assistants while thinking about how they work and what they are as little as possible.
These services’ voice recognition and speech synthesis are impressive,
but this brand of AI feeds off data.
And data is most pertinent when talking about Google Assistant.

It can read your emails, knows everything you search in Google,
the apps you run and your calendar appointments.

Funny you should mention this. I have been following this thread, virtually computer-illiterate and with no clue about AI and its implications.

Just now downloaded a crossword puzzle, and right beside it what pops up but an ad claiming to explain AI. Coincidence? Probably, but who knows....
