Re: The Neverending Longhorn 11/01-current

Any chance I could get pictures of the bed mounts on the frame and some measurements?

I have a LongHorn bed here I need to build. So I have to place the bed supports.

I also need to install the brackets on the frame that got cut down to length and wheel base.

Absolutely. I will help any way I can. I have the bed off of the frame right now. Let me know what measurements you need and pictures you want and I can go out and get them for you.

Pictures of the bed underside and where the supports are, from front to back.

Pictures of the frame mounts and measurements for each one from the rear of the cab mount.

I have the mounts and bed supports, just no idea of where they go.

Thanks, I really appreciate this. It's for my C to K conversion... build in my signature.

Sorry for all the pain and suffering and hassles you've been through. Looks like you're going to end up with an awesome ride when done though.

Re: The Neverending Longhorn 11/01-current

This is kind of a play by play when I went to check on it:

Ok now for the update. Went down for my bi-weekly check on the progress. It hasn't moved AGAIN! I finally had to do it. I found the owner while he was eating lunch and,

I asked him "Where do I fit in the schedule. You said a month or so we are sitting at 8 right now"
I explained I didn't want to be a jerk but I had recently been laid off and wanted to make sure I saved the money needed to pick it up. He then began to tell be about all the collision work in the shop has been holding him from working on it.
I interrupted with "FOR 8 MONTHS?" (somehow he actually believes that!)
He said "he just hasn't had time to finish it up with the storm damage that had been steadily coming in."
I then asked" So let me get this straight. So I will get my project worked on when there is nothing left to work on in the shop?"
He said" Well, Yeah pretty much. I need to get the collision work done first. No insurance company is going to wait until I get your truck done."
I said " Fine, I understand that but, Imagine if I was going to pay you the same way. Once there is nothing left for me to spend money on I will get around to paying you"
He then asked "if I knew someone else that had time to work on it they could."
I said "NO way! I brought it here cause you do good work. I don't want a POS job that everyone is pointing at each other as the reason therefore I would be left with something less desirable and everyone else claims its the others fault."
I again explained "the first reason I brought the bed to him was damage that happened while moving from one shop to another because of the same reason, and I would rather it not have it happen again."
He said he wished he could hire a part time body man to finish some of these big projects that he had.
He asked me "if I knew anyone or if I would come down and start blocking it out."
I said "I might"

Late yesterday afternoon I went down and talked to my Buddie Carl that got laid off from Freightliner with me. Since he was the bodyman I thought he might have the skills not to mess it up and be willing to help me out with this issue.
He Said " Ill bring home my body tools from my Uncle's shop this weekend and give you a call on Sunday."
He said he would be able to give me a better idea of his schedule next week by then.

Re: The Neverending Longhorn 11/01-current

Sorry you're having so much trouble getting your body work done. Have you contemplated doing it yourself? Maybe practice on some spare panels or something, it's what I'll end up doing. Hope you get it done soon, trucks looking great.

Re: The Neverending Longhorn 11/01-current

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Here it is 3-25-09 and believe it or not they are working on it. I didn't post anything on it last week cause i was just caught up in the moment.

Heres what happen.
I talked to a few friends, Dad, Wife.. Lawyer... Found out nothing I can do in oregon. If I just go pick it up i WILL have to pay him for what he has done at what ever rate he decided was fair. So i let it sit another month after "Our Big Talk" when i went in there and asked him when exatcly am I going to get my truck worked on? He said he would like to tell me it would be finished in a couple month but he didn't know.

I let it sit another month and had it. I don't care what it costs im taking my camera in there and snapping some pics. Then going on the search for a new painter.

When I arrived this time I found him standing there blocking my cab. The bed, tailgate, and doors were in the booth with a second coat of primer on them already. He said that as soon as he gets the cab blocked the first time he would respray it in primer as well then Jamb it before the weekend.

I asked: Ok then whats next?
He said: we will set it back on the frame next week and begin fitting everything.
I asked: When do you want the frame?
He Said: Monday.
I then let the frame burried in the back of my shop sit in the shop untouched until friday (3-20)
I went in on friday and again reaffirmed he was ready for the frame on monday.
He said: Bring it in on Wed.
I replied: No problem I'll have it here.

So from Friday until yesterday I have been searching the net for pics of two tone paint jobs. Kinda wild but not crazy or goddy.
Now on 3-24
I brought in 4 or 5 pictures of trucks that I had found and asked him what he thought would be the best for my truck. He picked one out and that.. I think.. . Is the plan.

So, Here we are. Morning of 3-25 I have the frame dug out from the back of my shop and back up on the trailer.

Re: The Neverending Longhorn 11/01-current

Oh yeah one more thing..
I took him the bed some time ago. to do the body work and jamb the bed. He charged me 1650.00
He wanted the new front fenders since the old ones I had needed to much work 300.00
He wanted to jamb them before i put them on (yes they are off again now???) 200.00
He wanted a better cab after ordering parts for the first one. So I paid the restocking of the replacment sheetmetal 90.00
Bought the replacment Cab 500.00
He came and saw the truck before I brought it down and quoted me another 2350.00 to finish it. I double checked while i was there last week.
New price to do the body work on the doors and cab.... and paint the whole thing. another 5000.00 so looks like I will be out 7750.00 and 10 months for what was supposed to be 4k and 1 month.

Screw it.. just get it done.. I'll find the money.

Re: The Neverending Longhorn 11/01-current

New Thoughts.......

I decided to remove the body lift and just go with the 8" springs.

This will make it easier for the bumper situation as well as no gap between the inner fenders and the frame.

Plus makes me pretty sure that I will run a 37" tire with 20" wheel. Thus alittle cheaper there too then the 40's and 22s I was planning on buying.

I was worried about making the cab fit with fresh paint on the underside. I didn't really want to cut the freshly painted floor even though I do have the correct hump. This replacement cab has a solid tunnel. here is a pic with the body lift in it.

Looks like it would be close.

It was. But it doesn't hit. Im leaving the low tunnel in it since it fits and its already painted. Now I have to deal the the tank. I just removed it for now. I'll figure something out once I get it home.

5-13-09 FINALLY SOME COLOR!

Today. I went down to see it with some clear on it. The past 3 days I have been in and out down at the body shop. Laying out the two tone and stripe. I think it turned out pretty good.Thought I would finally post an update showing real progress for you guys.

The bed should be done tomorrow. They we will mount up the bed and once its cut and polished. I'll be bringing it home.
