Flea market find NOS 68 side trim

Picked up some nos 68 side moldings two door , two long bed moldings and three short. Couple have shelf wear the spots are rain drops.

But one door molding is painted white and one of the shorts is red factory paint . Never seen it before . Any ideas as to why?

Re: Flea market find NOS 68 side trim

Nice score, looks to be in pretty good shape for a flea market find. Usually most vendors at a flea market don't give a lot of TLC to items. As for the red stripe seems I recall my BIL's 68 GMC had the red paint on the lower trim which is different than the trim for the 69-72 trucks. Maybe some one did a repaint to match a desired look on the truck? Look REAL close to see if any marks which might show trim was installed even for a short period of time.

The red and white ones appear to be factory . No tape lines just the misty areas of using a stencil.

Guy took care in wrapping them in heavy plastic and as much of the factory packaging as was left .

Yep, the 67 & 68 GMCs had red paint on the side trim molding.

Nice score! Will you be putting them on your 68?

Re: Flea market find NOS 68 side trim

I was there. It was a flea market/swap meet at a big antique truck show. This guy was a truck parts vendor. He also had a couple sets of PO1s in close to mint condition. He also sells Ford and Dodge parts. I bought a set of NOS '80s GM "dumbo" mirrors from him one year. I found a decent 67/68 Chevy hood in original paint with no rust on the front lip from another vendor.

I'm not sure if we ever resolved the rhyme or reason on the red or white accent on the trim. If we did, I forget. It may be that the red was GMC but even if it was it wasn't all. I'd like to know the answer to this

Re: Flea market find NOS 68 side trim

Google search showed a few pictures of GMCs with red . But the white one has me baffled.

I'm not sure I ever saw white before but I knew about red. I'm hoping someone will come along with the scoop

Doors and longbed pieces . Haven't decided if I'll hang onto the shortbed pieces
