Starting 6.0 swap, ls6 intake ??

Ok guys I'm attempting my first engine build/ swap. I got a 6.0 from my old work truck, Also came across a 2wd 4l80e last year, My plan is just a reliable street motor, Basically good heads and cam, looking to do car style intake, and headers.
My first question is. What all do I need for put a ls2/ls6 intake on the 6L. I know the accessory drive need to be changed, or altered, but what else do I need?

Thanks for any input

You'll need an ls1 fuel rail and injectors too as well as the injector plugs in the harness will need to be changed. The fuel inlet on the rail will need to be bent slightly to clear one of the coils. The throttle body will also hit the upper radiator hose if you keep the truck accessories.

I put a LS 6 intake on my 5.3L. I used a water pump from a 2000-02 camaro. I had to space out the water pump so the water pump pulley would match up with the crank pulley. I also had to relocate the idler pulley. I got both of these parts from Dirty Dingo motorsports. The Throttle body is a DBW that was ported out. The injectors are also from a LS 6 engine. The water pump spacer has a 1/8 pipe tap hole to run the steam line into if you have to. I also used after market fuels I got from Speed Tech.

Here are a few pics:

Good luck with your conversion.

Re: Starting 6.0 swap, ls6 intake ??

You have a couple of options.....

1. You can rig it with just a camaro/trans am ls water pump and space the pulley (risk bad harmonics and leaks/burning a water pump)

2. You can get all camaro/trans am front cover accessories (water pump, ps pump, alt, idler, crank pulley etc.) and run ls1/2 intake, tb and fuel rails.

3. Stick with the truck stuff and run a trailblazer ss intake manifold. Great tq and hp, much better alternative than the stock vortec truck manifold. Much cheaper and you can keep all of the factory truck accessories and wiring.

How is a TBSS manifold different from a standard truck manifold?

Bigger throttle body and different runners mainly. You will notice ~15-18rwhp/tq difference between stock and the tbss.

Re: Starting 6.0 swap, ls6 intake ??

You can find LS6 intakes for under $400 shipped on tech regularly.
LS2's are 1/2 that price.

Re: Starting 6.0 swap, ls6 intake ??

Do they usually come with throttle body fuel rails and injectors? For under 400?
I was looking at a ls2 but can't find a dbc throttle body for a ls2

Yes. You just have to keep your eyes open, I've seen 2-3 come up in the past month or so.
Me personally, I'd put a TBSS intake on it and be done. Cheaper and you don't have to mess with the accy drive.

sorry to jack.....but will the lq4 injectors fit in the ls1/6 intake?...I know the connectors are different, and do they flow enough for the ls1/6 intake?.......I can buy a bare ls1/6 intake and holley fuel rails....already have a f-body h2o pump with the wider pulley...

Don't use them. The MultecII plugs they use make them a pain, because upgrading injectors limits you to marine 8.1 injectors, or something custom. The EV1 or EV6 plugs are much more versatile. Aside from that, the stock lq4 injectors are near the top of there usefulness at stock power levels, so just upgrade right away.

Are the fuel rails on the ls6 intake for a return or returnless fuel system?

Do I need the ls6 valley cover and steam lines? I finally have the motor in the truck but the Intake won't sit down all the way

Re: Starting 6.0 swap, ls6 intake ??

I'm using the LS3 intake and L92 heads on my LQ4. Pace Performance has the intake for a couple hundred less than the LS6. I think it was Hot Rod that did a test of most of the CNC ported L92/LS3 heads and a stock set. They all flowed about the same and there wasn't a big difference between any of them. The stock L92 heads are under $1000. The magazines show 500 plus HP with a decent cam. You would have to change the connectors for the injectors.

It is also easy to stroke. Everybody makes a kit since the 6.0 is a 4" bore. With a .030 bore you end up with a 408. I'm just going to burn money on my LQ4 and do the stroked 408, L92 Heads, LS3 intake and the MSD Atomic LS EFI system. It's not cheap but eliminates the wiring mess. It's going to end up costing more than the truck.

What trans are you gonna run? The atomic needs it own trans controller doesn't it?

4L80 or 85. I exchanged email last week and they sent out a notice to dealers. They'll have DBW and transmission control this summer. Both TCI and Painless have standalone transmission controls. Both support paddle shifting and stuff like that.

Here is the LS3 intake with a cable throttle body;

I think you just need to change the bolts out with some button head allen bolts..

Re: Starting 6.0 swap, ls6 intake ??

I took the old style steam line off and the intake sits down all the way so I guess I just have to change to the ls6 steam line which connects just the front of the heads together,
But changing the bolts still wouldn't be a bad idea just to make sure
