My New OBS Daily Driver - '99 Tahoe

Just arrived this morning via shipper from North Carolina. 2wd, cloth interior, cargo doors, 5.7 Vortec, 15'' BLACK ROCK steel wheels of which I am not familiar with at all. Wheel center cap says Black Rock Made in USA Michelin 235/75/15s, seems to ride good, few items need attention as all used rides do. Infamous broken outside door handle on passenger side front. Missing the cigarette lighter, no biggie there, I'm a non smoker. Has a K & N after market air filter. No rust, few minor body dings, nothing serious tho. Needs a passenger side mirror, big chip on outer edge. Cloth interior clean, no rips, sits good. After market am/fm radio, no CD. Speedometer reads about 10 over the speed according to my GPS app on my phone. All in all, satisfied with a few tweeks needed here and there, should make a good daily. Time will tell but what ever, nothing time, $$$ and beer won't fix,

That is a good looking one. Looking forward to your wheel choice.

I like it. The 5.7 in my 99 has a lot more power than the one in my 93. Those look like $50 a piece aftermarket steel wheels. It probably had the same wheels as mine, which I don't care for.

Re: My New OBS Daily Driver - '99 Tahoe

Sean, the wheels presently on the Tahoe are an after market styled steel wheel for sure. Never heard of BLACK ROCK wheels but then haven't kept up with the newer wheels that much. Don't generally care for the 18'' wheels and on up thru the 22'' wheels with the rubber band look of the narrow sidewall. Will try and get a better close up pic of the current wheels. Looked on line and the Black Rock wheels can get pricey but the styles offered sure don't appeal to me.

These will have to do until I find something in a 5 on 5 15'' wheel that will fit the Tahoe and my taste, LOL.

I like the standard wheels, styled steel, better than the factory alloys that came on most 1/2 tons. Getcha some truck rallyes and be done. I know what I would get, 8" steelies, paint rallye wheel argent, and square body hub caps, probably no beauty rings. Some kind of Chevy car hubcaps would look really custom, yet subtle

Re: My New OBS Daily Driver - '99 Tahoe

Tim, the plan is finding a set of the 15'' x 7'' five lug square body ralley wheels and the newer style bright cap. Maybe a set of narrow trim rings. Have checked with a few of my local car and truck buds and no one has such on hand. These wheels will do thru the winter and will start looking a bit harder when warmer weather returns. The wheels not high on the priority list at the moment but they are on tap to be changed for sure.

Re: My New OBS Daily Driver - '99 Tahoe

Took this pic this afternoon of the BLACK ROCK wheels on my new to me '99 2wd Tahoe. Steel, five lug, can see sort of a "wavy" looking curl at the bottom of each spoke or section. Think they are 7'' but with the tire mounted king of hard to tell. They will do the job until I find something else that has more appeal to me.

With having 235/75/15'' tires I doubt very seriously that the wheels are larger than the 7'' I guessed. Don't think one can mount a 235/75 to a 8'' wheel.
Anyone know about that for sure?

I think mine are eights with 235/75/15s. For a factory style I like these which are on my van:

235/75 work well on 8" rallys. That is the size I have see from factory on them. I prefer to run 255/70 on the 7" or 8". Gives it a nicer foot print and feel IMO.

Re: My New OBS Daily Driver - '99 Tahoe

My '90 Blazer came new with 235/75s mounted on 8" rallyes. I thought that would be too wide a wheel but if the factory did it that must be ok. I would want a wider tire or a narrower wheel.
