This is a Pontiac engine that most fans try to ignore. It is junk. Even in the 4 bbl carb version, and even with the turb, ('80/'81 T/A) it is still a junk engine.
Find another Regal that needs a motor and try to make a couple bucks selling it.

If you have a large boat, you now have a good anchor. All kidding aside that motor is a dog, I wouldn't mess with it

It was actually raced in nascar back in the day. but for the most part a budget 301 is a slug.

it was probably the same deal behind tyhe chevy 302, at least i know in the day of the 302 engines there was a limit of 5 liters for some races they had back then, i forgot what race exactly now. but 301 was later so i dunno,,,,,,
ive only ever seen one 301, is in a white and blue accent 79 or so firebird.. we worked on it for the lady that had it, we replaced intake gaskets, i remember it having a gallery pan under intake, i thought that was odd.

There was just a write-up about these in a past magazine. Basically they described its characteristics, and how it was made. They didn't have one good thing to say about this engine. Also, they cannot take any RPM at all. As I should know, I had one in my '80 Trans Am years ago, blew it up racing a guy in a Camaro.
