Re: Classic Trucks: Other Makes

My first car out of high school was a '61 Studebaker Lark VIII convertible. For what I got in trade-in money when I bought my '64 SS Malibu, I should have stored it in a barn. If we only knew. But I lived in a tract house, and the storage would have been more than the $122.50 I got as a trade-in.

Studebaker parts were already hard to find in '70. I worked for a Chevy dealer at the time, and not only were parts easy to find, I got them at 10% over cost, as an employee. Pretty sweet deal.

Actually in the 70s parts were very easy to get for Studebakers . Studebaker still had a warehouse in PA and a central hub in South Bend . We were buying front fenders for Hawks for 23 buck delivered abrand new motor was a couple of hundred .Studabaker kept everything I was buying NOS chrome until about 2007 I even got a whole complete set of seat skins for my Hawk still in the box’s in 2001. You just needed to know the right people to order the parts . Most Studebaker dealers like my uncle were lifetime dealers so they got the 40% discount and free shipping into the 80s before the parts were sold off to Newman Altman the dealers that bought the rights and the factory for the Avanti

Jasper quote was just under $2500 shipped to my mechanic friend’s shop. He’ll be more than fair on his labor charges, but I was hoping to beat that price for a good rebuilt 6 cylinder engine that would fit right in the ‘67. Please let me know if any of you guys know where I can check on getting a rebuilt motor. Thanks.
My mechanic friend just ordered me a 300 6 cylinder for the '67 F100. I know it's an old clunker, but I'm curious as to how the thing is gonna drive with a nice newly refreshed motor in it. It's been a knocker ever since I can remember.

The 300 6cyl was a good truck engine. That should be a huge improvement. probably make you want to unclunkerfy it

Hey Mark, sweet little red Daytona convertible. I wish I still had the '61 Champ I had

The red isnt factory it was Rosemist metallic . I painted it gm blaze red a convertible needs to be flashy

I need to change it the Hawk and Avanti to dual master cylinder brakes . The Hawk and Avanti I need to buy a complete kit as they never came with split brakes the 64-66 lark/commander's did have it factory.

Even thought I did all the lines master and wheel cylinders it's still a little worrysome that something is going to blow and poof no brakes . Ebrake dont cut it

My champ was red originally. When I had it painted I went with yellow. Hey, it was the '70s and it was California. There are a few spots with pinstripe, California teardrops. The pictures are when it was freshly painted. I put 8" chrome smoothies on it. It had the 259/3spd + o/d

Thanks for the info, Friends. I am looking forward to driving it again so I can keep some of the miles off the new-to-me '90 Sport that I bought back in May. It's up to almost 10K miles now......gotta let that young Sport rest a while!

My dad had a '78 F100 with a 6 cylinder in it. I remember driving it in the mid '80's.....I could make that thing peel out. Dad finally figured out why the push rod kept falling out and whooped my tail for it.

Re: Classic Trucks: Other Makes

The pics of the Travelall's reminds me of my '65 Dodge Town Wagon.

Town Wagons and Town Panels sold poorly (hundreds per year) and were quite crude in their construction. Yet, many of those have survived.

(not mine)

I love those Town Wagons and Panels. I know a guy around here with a 4wd Town Wagon just like the one you showed, except it's still original paint. I assume that one isn't

A friend has one. It's a dually wrecker He's had a GMC General tow truck and now one of these. His other is a '71 Dodge D300 flatbed dually with a Cummins, 4spd, and another 4spd. That's what he hauls the Crosley on.

Proud and strong. Looks like it was a camper hauler. They offered dual rear wheels from factory, but this one with converted using an aftermarket kit.
