'05 Tahoe Key Fob Eating Batteries?

We've had our '05 Tahoe for about the last 18 months or so and for the most part are satisfied with it. We do miss the cloth interior and cargo doors of our previous '99 Tahoe but the leather interior and rear hatch do work, just not our preference. Can't always get what you want when you buy used tho.

The problem that has recently started is I have had to change the battery in MY key fob three times within the last two months. My wife's fob works fine altho I'm sure mine is used more often when we go somewhere together. Is that a normal life time for such an item? I have done the learning process each time and the fob works fine for several weeks and then....nothing. Wife's fob continues to work fine. Any one have some thoughts on what is causing my fob to only work for such a short time with new batteries? Have been using Duracell CR 2032 batteries consistently.

I will say I am less than impressed with the fact that GM has done away with the passenger side keyed door lock. Must be a rather small cost savings for such an expensive vehicle when it was built. Further cheapening of the product and a bit of an inconvenience for the end user at purchase.

Re: '05 Tahoe Key Fob Eating Batteries?

Do you have it in a pocket with a bunch of other things that are pressing the buttons?

The other ting to do would be to take the fob apart and look over the PC board under a magnifier for small areas of corrosion or crud making low current contact in places the electrons shouldn't be going.

If it's the FOB itself then swapping remote FOBs with your wife for a few days would rule out the pocket theory. Like playing swaptronics with coils.

Re: '05 Tahoe Key Fob Eating Batteries?

Will look into the possibility of too many objects in the pocket along with the key fob. Will also trade fobs with the other half for a couple weeks and see how that works. Thanks for the replies and the ideas.
