Saw the same thing with two bull elk in the village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon a few years ago. Stupid people two or three yards from full grown bull elk harassing them for photos. I watched for a bit hoping to see someone get a hard education but it wasn’t to be.

Two black bears walked up the street right in front of the house we rented in the smokies a few weeks ago. Watched them from the upper deck and that was plenty close for me. Real life ain’t a Disney movie and bears don’t want a hug.

The funny thing is, it's probably safer than turning and running away. People's minds are so insulated, that when they see something wild in their habitat, they treat it like it's been domesticated. I would back away slowly and make sure that there were plenty of juicy, stupid people between me and the bear, haha.

I am really surprised that we are not seeing this in Northern Calif with all the fires. 1/4 million acres burned just with one fire. A lot of wildlife is getting displaced

It's funny how different things can be. I have not seen, heard from or about my first Ex since 1991. We walked away from the courthouse after filing a peaceful dissolution and have had no contact or issues since. I honestly could not tell you where she even lives. I'm sure the bear was either put down or tranquilized and taken far away . When they have no fear of humans it's not a good thing. We have them here and we make loud noises when going to the blueberry bushes up in the back field they run like hell. Most times they run away anyway unless you surprise them. Then they react accordingly.

When bears may be present, Outdoorsmen should carry bells and pepper spray to scare off the bears.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces.

Here is the report of the 16 year old girl who was attacked while sleeping in a hammock camping a short way from Gatlinburg recently , The news " barely " covered it . The rangers had to kill that bear .
