Moding a dual plane intake??

Anyone ever tried to take a normal dual plane and notch it out like the Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake, in order to help out on top end any?? Seems to me it could be done pretty easily with a dremel.

AFAIK, unless it's cast as such, you'll be into the runners before you accomplish your goal.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Moding a dual plane intake??

If you have room, add a spacer. It's a lot easier, and reversible.

Re: Moding a dual plane intake??

The old Chevy Power Manual recommended this back in the day with the LT-1 intake. Noted that it only added power above 5500 RPM.

I'd expect with a current generation manifold there's very little gain if any.

Good ideas guys, IDK why I just didn't think of a spacer, lol

Re: Moding a dual plane intake??

I think I misread the original post...I thought you were asking about cutting a notch in the divider...but you were wondering about hogging out under the runners???

Nooooooo.

I had that magazie a few years ago and for the life of me I can't find it or a link to the article on the web. If anyone has a link post it up.

Re: Moding a dual plane intake??

i know that some intakes used to come with the notch from their respective factories back a while ago, and may still do. i just haven't looked at intakes lately since i decided to go with tpi. but i thought that the runners were separate for a reason? not trying to say not to notch the plane divider, just trying to figure out where the gains might be. doesn't the divider help power down low where us truck guys tend to like it??

Re: Moding a dual plane intake??

The divider does help with low end power.....I wouldnt cut the intake. If you like to experiment, drop a 3/4' open spacer on it.....or get a 3/4", 4 hole spacer to experiment with. You can cut the center out & modify as needed. crazyAl
