Which oil pan for 72 GMC 2wd?

I have a 72 GMC truck and am in the midst of rounding up parts for to install a 6.0 LQ4 that came from a 01 Chevy truck. What oil pan will fit mine? I have seen that some guys have to change to the Caddy CST V pan.

I'm using an f-body pan just for extra ground clearance.

MAST motorpsorts has one coming out in a few weeks that will fit darn near any application, pretty much universal.

The truck pan hangs down less than an inch with the ECE mounts.

Re: Which oil pan for 72 GMC 2wd?

GM part number 19212593, universal oil pan kit, fits all Gen III and IV engines (not a direct fit for the LS7, LSA, and LS9) and includes the oil pan, gasket, indicator tube and indicator, pickup tube and crankshaft oil deflector.

$120.96.

Don't know if it comes with a block-off or not, but I put a corvette style adapter on there, and tapped it for a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Re: Which oil pan for 72 GMC 2wd?

Mine came with the block off plate already on the pan. I don't see a need for an oil cooler on my application.

Re: Which oil pan for 72 GMC 2wd?

I dont know the part number but its called the "LS SWAP OIL PAN" you can get it from Jegs, Summit or GM. It come with evey thing you need. Bolts, gasket, p/u tube and it does have a bolted on block off plate for the oil cooler. You shouldnt need an oil cooler unless your towing, or have a superchager/turbo on your motor. I also have the ECE motor mounts and it may hang 1/4" below the cross member but thats where the drain plug is. This pan is off an 08 Hummer H3. So thats the oil filter you need to ask for when you go to change your oil.

I assume that it's pretty accurate being that it is placed there? So, you are not using the electric gauge?

So what oil filter fits this pan? I already purchased a filter to fit the old pan. 01 6.0 LQ4 filter doesnt fit this pan. Another trip to the parts store with pan in hand.

I have the sender hooked up to the PCM (not that it's needed...), but am using a mechanical gauge for the cab. I don't see why it wouldn't be accurate in that spot.

You could always take the fitting out of your old pan and install it in the new pan. I did that on mine so I can always get parts that fit the truck (tahoe) that my motor came out of.
