1958 3/4 ton and 1959 1/2 ton

Okay long description so stick with me. I bought a 1959 Apache 1/5 ton and planned on restoring and have come across a gutted 1958 3/4 ton 4x4. So now I have purchased the 58 and I am going to yank the motor and trans from my 59. With the 4wd can I attach a transfer case to the automatic transmission that is 2wd now? If so How? The engine and tranny are a 76 Chevy 350 and TH350 trans. Also The data plate from the 58 is missing is there a way to get a new data plate with a serial number? Thats all I can think of for now I got a million quastions floating around in my head though.......TBC wayne.westover@gmail.com

Yes and no. You have to change the output shaft on the transmission.

Re: 1958 3/4 ton and 1959 1/2 ton

Do some searching in the 4x4 section here. Depending on the transfer type (NP203 vs NP205 probably) you will need to make sure you get the right spline configuration. for the trans and transfercase. Also different tranfer/trans combinations have differnt crossmember mount housings sometimes between the trans and transfercase (np203) or direct connection with mount on the transfer case (NP205). As said the output shaft and housing is different on 2wd and 4wd. To add to the confusion the transfer cases were used on other makes (Ford, Dodge) with different combinations to. Look at my build thread I am using a TH350/NP203 out of a 1974 K10 pickup in at 59 using the 59 frame and springs.
