you can use the generic straight hooks at an auto/tractor store.

those hooks don't even come close to working on an 84 K10. I bought them from LMC thinking they were correct but they would require extensive adaptation to be strong and functional, especially with the spoiler.

thanks anyhow!

they will not mount without welding or drilling, and to clear the spoiler and to "stick out" they would need a custom block or plate.

I almost had gotten something welded up but will now try to get the factory units.

anyone have any leads?
thanks.

Re: Tow Hooks and Spoiler up front on 84

No pics, but the tow hooks should mount using the two horizontal bolts that hold the bumper bracket to the end of the frame (the bolts are shared, and do both functions). I did that job for one day, installing the front bumper on the assembly line. Even dropped a tow hook on my trainer's foot at one point....

They should hang down sort of vertically. There is a cut out in the spoiler to provide access; you should be able to take a "non tow hook" spoiler and cut a notch in it to convert it to a tow hook spoiler - I think there are some ribs on the back side that will help you locate where to trim.

Re: Tow Hooks and Spoiler up front on 84

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to look at my truck today. I had to work on my burb chasing down a fuel leak and reattaching the starter bracket. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

Re: Tow Hooks and Spoiler up front on 84

Here's the front spoiler. I checked the spid and it says nothing about it so I'm thinking it's aftermarket. Looks like soomeone had to cut the spoiler to make room for the hooks.

This pic is of the tow hooks on my 85 Burb. They mount up the same on my 83, it was too tight to get a good pic. Hope this helps.

Spoiler looks production to me. I agree: Maybe someone added the tow hooks and cut the spoiler themselves, but they emulated the production set up.

Tow hook RPO is V76, and should appear on your SPID if they were ordered originally.

The first thing I did when I got my '90 Blazer was take that useless piece of plastic off
I can see where doing a correct resto you'd want it. But,I'd leave it in the garage and just tell people I had it if it was me. Aerodynamics...yeah right!

IIRC the SPID has the tow hooks listed, but not the spoiler....I'll look again sometime to be sure.

Tow hooks are optional; spoiler is standard.

With a snatch strap? I've never seen that. I'd never yank anything with a chain.

Nope with a 5in thick barge rope which has much more give than a chain but then it broke now we have a bigger brand new nylon barge rope not sure of the Kevlar one I wanted though

Stock hooks and spoiler. My old 84 K10 had it. My 83 K15 has it. An 89 I bought had it too.

Not sure if these "square bodies" ever went through the wind tunnel, I think the spoiler/air dam is more of a cosmetic piece, maybe even helpful in keeping the underside clean during normal paved street use.

without spoiler; gnarly looking, I must admit.

with spoiler (hides my ugly suspension til I ever decide to clean and detail)

tow hooks installed (thanks to a member here for a painless purchase)

I believe the spoiler was designed to throw more air into the radiator, you would only notice the difference under extreme conditions

Squares did go through the wind tunnel (remember the bump on the front of the hood?) and the front spoiler was for aero. It helps clean up the airflow and push the air around the sides of the truck.

That's why the 4wd version is longer than the 2wd version (to keep them both about the same distance off the pavement).

This is not correct. Spoilers designed to throw more air into the radiator are located directly under the radiator support as opposed to under the bumper (under the bumper is too far forward for that purpose).

Re: Tow Hooks and Spoiler up front on 84

Old thread I know . I’m putting the hooks I bought on my 87 this week . The hooks use the same bolt holes as the front bumper correct ?

And the spoiler thing is to reduce the air pressure under the truck . This will let air flow through the radiator as air in the engine compartment exits to the low pressure . Made one for my Avanti and it helped greatly with temps at cruising speeds. Notice the lack of a grill air came in from under the bumper

No. They use separate bolts that bolt to the frame behind the bumper. This is my 84 with hooks and spoiler.
