100+ amp alternators.

Anyone running a 100 amp or higher output alternator? I need a temporary one. I have a 100 amp serpentine belt type but I'm not ready to install the system yet. I'm looking for sources of 100 amp alternators. I've found a few on ebay but they are pricey. I need one so I can install my electric fans ahead of the new 350 SB.

Hey Tommy ready for another parts hunt?

Already got it on the list. If someone could tell me if there is a visual difference between them. The only thing I have been told is they run only one wire? I looked at mine and on the top I have 2 going into a slot and one on a thread coming out and held by a bolt. Is there any more differences I need to look for to be sure I have one. I have seen this one in a 79 K5 series.

The 100 amp alternator that I have for a serpentine belt system has the output stamped right on it. I paid like $35 for it. The older V-belt types should have the output stamp on them too. I think. Most of these 100 amp alts will be found in cars. Like old police cars, Camaro's, Vette's and large cars. No big hurry just keep your eye out for one. I'll be looking locally too. Thanks.

WOOOHOOO!! Hey Tommy. Still got a lead on the 100 amp alt? I need the 180 degree mounting type. Local places all want the same as catalogue prices.

gchemist,
Check about an 86-86 camaro. They should have a 94 amp alt with a standard size case. I'm not too familiar with the 90s versions, but the only 70s and 80s that I can remember with a true 100 amp was a Cadillac, which had a bigger case than normal.
I've went to the 94 amp on my 4x4s, as there is no bracket modifying, and they are easier to find at the parts stores (and cheaper too)
Also, see if you can find an older parts store that still has books that they will let you look thru to see what you want.

Virgil,
Thanks for the info. I won a brand spanking new alternator for a Camaro for only $15.00 on ebay! The guy paid $85 but could not return it since he did not have a receipt. The problem was wiring in his car and not the alternator! From the pictures it looks like a direct plug in if it you have the same kind. Seller stated that it fit an 84-86
