Gas Tank In/Top Off

I spent this past week installing a new gas tank in my K5. I only had short periods of time to work on it. This past Sunday I finished it up. The only thing left is to purchase some more gas vent line. I used a piece of clear to hold me over. Everything works great, so I buffed it up and took the top off. It was worth all the trouble. My neighbors cousin came over and wants to purchase it! I declined.

Yes it is, I have been searching for a pair of the original seats. They are hard to come by around Maryland. It also has a 400 in it. I looked up the numbers and the motor came out of a 72 Caprice. The inside is rhino lined.

Re: Gas Tank In/Top Off

A timely post.... where did you get the gas tank? Did you have to lengthen the metal filler spout on the replacement tank?

Great Blazer BTW

Re: Gas Tank In/Top Off

I got the tank kit from LMC, best price with shipping. The Truck Shop actually manufacturers the tank, but to ship from Cali was too much. I cut the old curved neck off, shortened the the new filler by an inch and used 1 3/8 id filler hose to make a coupling. That made it easier to move the neck around when installing. I had the tank in and out 3-5 times fitting the straps, changing vent line hoses and being a knucklehead! The last time I installed I forgot to hook up the sending wire. It's all good though.

Re: Gas Tank In/Top Off

I was out driving the K5 and all the sudden smoke from under the dash! Pulled over unhooked the battery and a orange wire was smoking. I took it loose from the fuse box and freed up a couple of melted wires under the hood and drove home. After further investigation, I found it fried in the fuse box, not bad though. A little more work before I can be back out! I will post pics tomorrow.

Ya, these old trucks and there old wiring can surprise you. My wife drove my pickup one time and somehow the emergency brake shorted out the whole fusebox and burnt up most of the wiring. I ended up replacing with a Painless fuse box. They are not painless though. Good luck!

Re: Gas Tank In/Top Off

blap, I will look on the hose tomorrow and get the part #. I got the wiring fixed and I went to the Truck Nationals @ Carlisle on Friday. I went up to buy some things from guys at the Truck Shop. They have great prices and the quality is very good on there parts. This afternoon I installed the dash pad and alot of small parts on the dash.
