I am getting ready to run the exhaust on my 72 K10 Suburban and want to know how you guys are getting past the transfer case with your pipes. (over or under). If anyone has some pics of what you did I would appreciate it. I am also running headers.

seen both, stock was a y-pipe the went down the drivers side (and avoided the t-case)...

If you do any 4 wheeling you have to run it above the cross member, otherwise its gonna get damaged. Its real tight on the pass side, but a good exhaust guy can get in thru there.

Thanks for the responses guys. If you go over the transfer case how close is it to the floor of the truck? It looks like its going to be tuff to get it over and have clearance on the t case and not be too close to the floor. I dont want to go under and it hang down too low and be seen.

Here is how the pipes I showed you go through. The driver side is 8-9" from the floor and sits at about a 45 deg. tilted inward. The passenger side is turned straight up and is no less than 3" from the floor. First two pictures are the driver side. These pipes and headers have been on since '04 with no issues. It's tight on the passenger side,but no problems. I guess the pipe could bend up higher to clear the transfer case and cross member more,but then would be closer to the floor. I have these made up from 5' of pipe and keep them around to bolt up when I take a truck to the exhaust shop. I just stick the mufflers on to get there and they cut or bend that front pope and go from there.

It's hard to see in the first picture. That light colored line above the spring clamp is the collector gasket. The pipes run high and dry inside the frame the whole way back.

Thanks Tim, thats what I was looking for. I was thinking the pipe would be too close to the transfer case on the passenger side, but if it works for you, I will give it a shot. Would much rather have it go above than below. I appreciate you taking the time to post the pics.

Here's mine on my 72 K-10. It's got headers, 3in pipe, and a body lift.

The pipe (2.5") clears the t-case by 1/4" or more. Pretty close but you'll be fine. There may be a way to give more clearance. My method is to allow me to drive it there with some sort of exhaust on it. If custom bent from the headers "on site",the guy might do something a little different. I just had the pipes on a truck I owned copied years ago and keep a couple pair stashed. When I get to one pair I have another pair made. They just charge their minimum and do it in 10 minutes.

Not a 67-72 but the cross member arrangement is the same. The pipe is 2.5" from tip to tail.

Make sure the pipe is not touching anything after the exhaust shop is done. It will rattle and drive you nuts.

What kind of tranny is that?
I used headman "s" collectors and long tube headers.
They made it easy to go around the t-case.

NV4500.........regarding headers, I don't believe in them.

Finally got time to do the exhaust, will finish past mufflers once the body is back on. Thanks for all the input, worked out well going over the transfer case and should have just enough room on both sides so it wont hit.

Did you fab that? Did you paint it? Or is that aluminized pipe?
Is the spedo cable gonna clear?

Yes, I bent them myself, I have access to a pipe bending machine, I painted the pipes with VHT flat aluminium paint. The speedo cable will clear no problem, it just looks close in the pics.
