How rare or common

I found a 71 Chevy Custom K20 3/4 ton long step with a 292 and auto transmission, HD Springs front and rear, radio delete with gauges but no Tach. Is this a odd-ball combo or are 3/4 ton 4x4 6 cly autos pretty common?

Re: How rare or common

Model KE10904 production was 674 trucks in 1971. No breakdown on options. It is a fairly uncommon truck.

I've seen them with a 4 speed, but never with a automatic. What trans is it?

It's true there won't be a breakdown on such specifics, but his truck is a KS2 not KE1 and somewhere there would be a breakdown on long Stepsides. There were 674 lwb Stepside KE2s compared to 10,066 Fleetsides. There would have been less KS2s by '71 and way less with TH350. I'd say you have a very rare truck...certainly pretty darn unique. I would venture to say that in a K/20 it would be likely the 292 option is as common as the standard 250,if not more common. I'm not sure if 250s were available in K/20s...just like C/30s

So if its a TH350 it could be original. If its anything else, its been changed.

Re: How rare or common

Definitely rare and uncommon. Of course that doesn't mean more valuable, because it is an oddball combo, but it sounds like a cool truck and I certainly wouldn't mind owning one like it.

Re: How rare or common

Thanks for all your help. The truck is completely origional and the build sheet confirms a turbo 350. The truck was special ordered then parked after the owner died in the late 70's. Passed down to a son who died at 87 then to a grandson. I remember the truck when it was new. It was used as a farm truck and has a few dent due to cows and supprisingly little rust. I don't own the truck but I am trying to help the family out with information. I would love to have the truck also. Thanks again!

This is the only one I have. I took one of the build sheet in the glove box but it did not come out readable.

Re: How rare or common

It sure is desirable to me...and anyone who knows the unusual is what to look for in collector vehicles. I'd sure like a shot at it if and when it's offered for sale. I'm not an investor, just a guy who loves trucks.

Thanks special K,
I am letting the family know what kind of responses the truck is getting. I will let everyone know what they decide.

This can be a double-edged sword. If you talk it up a bunch they will think it's worth $4,000 and it will never sell. If they realize it has SOME value and they put a decent price on it, they can sell it fairly quickly and get something out of it.

Re: How rare or common

I know, careful is the word. I just want to the truck on the road with someone who will care for it and not in the hands of an 18 year old using it for a Mud Truck. Thanks for the advise.

Re: How rare or common

I wish I could locate the production figures for 6cyl trucks. If I had that truck I'd keep it original and stock to use as a chore boy and take it to antique truck shows as an example of a tradition American pickup continued into the '70s.

It would be a great truck to restore original.
If the body isn't too bad I would clean it up and drive it, including to shows as an original vehicle.

Could you please ask them to remove those things laying on the hood? Thank you very much.
