Talking NP-205 Anyone?

How much did it cost you ? Did you need to replace bearings etc., or just put a seal kit in it ?

I just had my 205 rebuilt at a local shop. He was amazed when he tore it open on what good condition it was actually in, beings that it was over 30 years old. Just a new seal kit and cleaning up and I was good as new. But I did have him swap out the standard u-joints for heavy duty 1350 u-joints. That added a $100 to the rebuild cost for a total of $385, but it will be worth it in the long run. The cost was actually a little high, but since they happened to be the ONLY shop in town that anyone would recommend, I guess they can charge a little more.

I was pissed when I got charged $225 for a seal and clean job! But I gave them the seal kit to put in it !

ive never had one worked on ,, ive chanhged output shafts myself now and then ,, but to just have it cleaned ? hell ive foend em laying in 6 inches of dirt before , , filled em full of 8090 and run em ,, these things just dont give up haha ha

Mac...I probably should have followed your philosophy on the transfer case. I just didn't want that to be the weak link and since I was tearing everything else down, I might as well get that fixed first. But I'm a novice when it comes to the internals on transfer cases, transmissions, or engines....and I'm not ready to tackle one of those yet. Maybe next time!

Leinie, Believe it or not including the seal kit and the 80/90 oil, bearings, blocking rings it only costed around $100. Not bad for a T-case everyone else wants $1000 or more for, and it really does shift with two fingers. If your thinking about rebuilding feel free to contact George at A-1 Transmissions in Denver, he is very helpful and very quick on parts shipped right to your door. I think he even has rebuilt units if you trade for yours. He also has the hard to find SM-465 4 speed trannys. But not many.
