Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

So what's left on the list other than the master cylinder issue?

How exciting that it's now tuned! Get those brakes fixed and do some spirited driving!

AC still needs charged
Retrosound is just cycling through my spotify playlists at top speed after playing the first song for about 20 seconds...who knows. Need to research that one.
Need to set speedo
Wipers aren't returning to park
Bodyshop for some touch up work
Don't like my exhaust exit...need a plan B for that

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

I shortened the slug on the Wilwood MC last night so it matched the depth of the stock Astro van MC. Took her for a drive and had no brake issues. Will do some more driving over the weekend to verify and then put the Wilwood calipers back on.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Nice! Another item crossed off the list.

So how does it run? Did the tuner take out all of the torque management, enable power enrichment, and does it have a nice chop at idle? I almost want to add back in some torque management in my tune - the 1-2 shift is pretty rowdy and sometimes chirps the tires even under light throttle.

I have been babying it around obviously. I expected it to be more aggressive than what it is. It runs like I am driving the Denali it came out of. Smooth, shifts easy, etc. It does have a nice chop to the idle with the cam. It sounds like a hot rod but drives like my daily. After I get a little more confidence in it I will stand on it and see what it does.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Got some miles in yesterday. Truck did great and is really fun to drive. I didn't do any burnouts. A couple observations:

1. I am surprised how well it hooks up and goes straight from a dead stop. I assumed it would spin the tires without much input.
2. The LS really makes it feel more like a modern driver than I expected.
3. I thought it would have a greater sense of speed being that it sits pretty low but I am always going faster than I feel like I am

Retrosound works great on bluetooth if the truck is not running. With the truck running it wants to skip through the Spotify playlists at mach 1. I'm going to call Retro and see what they say.

I do see a supercharger in its future

Already wanting more power huh? This is how it starts...the endless pursuit of speed.

I feel like it will be cheaper to keep adding to this one as opposed to starting another. This is how I plan to sell my idea anyway

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

I appreciate all the positive comments and I'm sure there will be a burnout video at some point

I did put the Wilwood calipers back on the front and did a test run last night. All is working fine. Still need the rear brakes to do more work than they are doing, but hopefully I can keep messing with the adjuster and get them there.

AC charge and back to the body shop for some touch up and we should be ready for the C10 Nationals.

Put over 100 miles on her this weekend. I'm gaining a lot more trust and having a blast with it.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Had the opportunity to get some professional shots done of the truck this past weekend. Can't wait to see the final proofs.

I dropped her back off at the body shop yesterday for final touch ups and polish so she is ready for the C10 Nationals next week.
