Carbon Fiber Driveshaft??

While picking at the local junkyard, came across this 95 ish CK 1500. From the rest of the truck, nothing else seemed to be modified. Did these trucks come with a Carbon fiber shaft?

Re: Carbon Fiber Driveshaft??

Probably.

The GM trucks of the time period also used those (aka "metal matrix").

Re: Carbon Fiber Driveshaft??

My vans have that type driveshaft. Pretty sure it's aluminum with a plastic like protective skin.

Re: Carbon Fiber Driveshaft??

I took a closer look at mine. I think it is carbon fiber, with aluminum ends.

up here in the heavy rust belt of the north east i use to see these years ago before they were all crushed .

there all aluminum and thats just a skin on it for some reason . saw one that had it fall off and seen the glue on the shaft body were it use to be .

Re: Carbon Fiber Driveshaft??

Those drive shafts are pretty light but 8-10 year in the rust belt the alum end's where the glue hold the carbon fiber on. The alum swells splits the carbon fiber strains you have to buy a new drive shaft. They did this take some weight off the truck ( and makes you buy new drive shaft more sale of drive shafts) same as the steel open lug nuts with alum cover !! to sell more of those lug nuts.
