Push Button Lock

1968 K10 Suburban all original.

What are you guys doing when your push button lock (rear tail gate clam shell) breaks? I have the original key and now it won’t unlock. I would use the the push button lock often so I know it worked.

I have been to 3 local Locksmiths and I get no where. They always send me somewhere else. “I don’t have the tools to take it apart.” “That’s too old for me” “we tried 250 keys. We are not authorized to open the lock”.

Looking for help.

Will the key still slide into it? There is a cover over the tumblers on the inside. It can come loose and pop up. If that happens the key will still slide in but the lock will not turn.

If you want to send it to me I will take a look at it and see what I can do. I have fixed quite a few of them.

I will PM you.

Lock is fixed. Just as I thought, the cover came loose and popped up. You can see it in this picture. It is supposed to be down flush with the lock surface. I removed the cover and twisted the "tabs" on each end of the cover so it would stay in place long enough for me to re-stake it. You shouldn't have any more problems with it.... This can also happen to door and ignition lock cylinders.
