Ditto that, Grumpy -- how can you not appreciate a '40 Ford coupe... especially one with a legitimate whip antenna?

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

The 40 Ford coupe is an all time favorite for many, many auto enthusiasts. Simply one of the prettiest, well proportioned Fords ever made.
This one is interesting as it has Sheriff and Police signage on it. Small budget and both departments used it maybe?

Don’t let the police markings fool you, I bet that one has run some shine in its day really cool car.

When I watched him loading his car with 50 Lbs of sugar I thought the same thing ! The guy driving it looked old enough to have bought it new ! The trunks on those where so big you could easily fit a large fuel tank and 50 gallon jugs of shine .

You can buy commercial shine in the liquor stores for about $20.00 a quart , But from what I've heard a gallon of "real shine " are going for about $150.00 .

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

The signage can't be genuine -- at the least, "911" and "K-9" were not around back in the day.

Of course, I may be mistaken about that. I was not around back in the day, either!

40 Deluxe's, Coup or Sedan are great looking cars. I prefer the toned down grill of the 40 Standard. Of course Id take either if someone was handing them out.

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

A recent TV news story around here was about a Sheriff Dept Officer that owned the same model of car that Barney Fife drove on the Andy Griffith show. He had it painted and marked similar to the show except with his county's markings. He sometimes uses it while on patrol. One suspect even wanted to be hauled to jail in the old car but sadly it didn't have the mandated safety cage so no luck there.

It is possible that old Ford is or was used is a similar fashion.

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

Back in the 90's when I decided to build a street rod, a 39 deluxe or a 40 std was my 1st choice. But when I went shopping, I quickly decided that the premium it took to buy one, forced me to build a 38 Chevy coupe. I love the old pre war fords.

Here is my '39 Deluxe and a friend of mines Yellow '39 deluxe. There are a few small differences between the '39 and '40 but not much. I have '40 headlight rings on my car.

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

Back in 1975 I worked at a Chevy dealership fresh out of high school. One day I was sent to deliver a red metalflake 40 Ford with a 327 sbc back to the owners house after some repairs were done. I wanted to keep driving.

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

Nothing wrong with an early Ford. I believe Other Larry had a coupe as well. I was sick on those '40 Ford Coupes as a kid. I spied one in a junk yard from the road way up above. I talked about it so much my dad took me to look at it on my 8th birthday. He had a '36 Coupe when I was born. I think he wanted to buy it. We walked up to it and saw "No Parts" written on the windows. The yard owner was saving it for himself. By the time I was 12 he had a '40 Sedan in the back yard. No engine in it but it was a former drag car w/4spd and "class winner" decals in the quarter glass, and other performance stickers. He ended up getting rid of it

Nice rides Leon both of them are real classic's.
As a personal opinion I've always thought the 39 Deluxe and 40 Standard Grills made the better looking Hot Rod.
I love the look 39 headlamps as they mimic/follow the fender better but they are very poor lighting, 40 was first year of the seal beams, big improvement. Bob Drake now makes a 39 seal beam unit but they are very pricey to say the least.
39 was the last year of the tip/crank out windshields and also last year for the rumble or aka the mother-in-law seat.

Re: I know, I know It's a ford ,BUT ...

You drink moonshine for the affect, not the flavor. And the way to drink it is take a sip and pass it on. If you drink it alone, you must be hardcore. I have only drank it because it was offered. To me it's a social thing. By the time the jar comes back around you can decide to pass it on or take another slash.

We go to an off road race in PA where a fellow member races a '69 Blazer (Line Mt 7-Miler). Another member is his co-pilot and a bunch of use would always go, haven't lately. Another fellow member who likes his alcohol more than most started bringing along some 'shine. It was a big hit and more and more was brought each year till the word was out around the camps. The whole pit/camping area is a hillside and people tend to lose their balance. Many drunkard stories to be told.
The one who brought the cases of moonshine, yes cases, had been up all night drinking that stuff with another heavy hitter. I wasn't drinking it at all after a year or two of it. He stumbled into the EZ-Up me and his friend were sleeping under and trashed it. It came down on his buddy's head and gave him a goose egg on his forehead. I peak out from under the collapsed EZ-Up to see 'J' crawling off, make a right turn, and crawl along side of his vehicle. Knee crawlin' drunk! The next morning (yes he did wake up to another day) he said, after people told him things he did, "It must have been that last pint". I said, "Likely was the first pint". It was not ever meant to be drank that way.

Yep, reminds me of a song:

I wonder how many '40 Fords ran moonshine. I always liked the '39/'40 Standard grilles better as well. As a kid the 39/40 Ford model kits were one of my favorites to build. AMY made Couple and Sedan kits, then came out with a Panel. I don't remember a pickup kit, but I love those things! They were popular to customize back in the late-50s/early-60s customs era. One of the pickups that gave me the truck bug that has been ailing me all my life
