62 impala

Well I sold my truck as we needed a 2nd vehicle for my daughter to drive. Picked up a Honda CRV for her and with my left over money I bought this.
Advertised as a 409 the numbers revealed it as a 348. The car had a frame off 20 years ago. It was driven a bit for 2 summers and has sat in a garage for 18 years. Pulled out the odd time but not on the road. The price dropped when the engine was found out to be a 348 but still a nice car. I'm going to do all the fluids and brakes and drive it a while to see where I'm going with it. Looked pretty cool coming home behind Mario's burban.

Ooh, a 3x2 W motor. Not a 409 but still cool nonetheless. And the pic behind the burb is awesome.

Re: 62 impala

it's been in a garage for 18 years so I'm changing all the fluids and getting rid of the 18 year old gas. Probably have to rebuild the carb and the brakes need some work. I"m going to drive it a bit and decide what to do. I'm going to put some discs on the front and would love to lower it a bit as well. It really just needs a good going over.

Well I'm right into it now. Evicted some old tennant's yesterday. They got into the back of the rear seat but did not damage the upholstery just the padding. The wiring has mostly been gone thru and just need a few pieces. No horns or even a relay ( was able to use and old horn relay from my 59 apache). Horn wire was pinched in the dash but that was fixed. When the appraiser was by to do the paper work he laughed at all the cobwebs underneath.

Got into the engine and found 1 broken rocker and a couple of bent push rods. Located some replacements and runs ok now with the 3 carbs rebuilt. Just have to drop the tank and clean it out. I have it running on a 1 gallon gas can right now.

Nice looking Imp!

I just picked up a 60, and I was wondering if you found any good forums like this one for them? This place has been a terrific resource for finding parts and stuff, so it would be great to find an Impala equivalent.

Where did you find a place to decode the numbers?

Thanks, and bring us up to date on this rascal!

teamimpala or chevytalk but neither get anywhere near the traffic this place does. I started a build thread for my 66 a few weeks ago and I think its still on the second page.

Re: 62 impala

well been busy and thought I should update. Picked up a409 out of a 1964 chris craft boat last year and have been building it. Sold the 348 and 350 turbo and put in a Muncie 4 speed. Now am going to replace the Muncie with a tremac 5 speed with the .62 overdrive to work with the 4:11 rear.
The 409 was bored out 34 over and custom pistons were ordered as well as eagle BBC rods. The crank was cleaned up and the 333 heads had larger 2.02 valves installed. Edelbrock 2 x 4 with 2 500 edelbrock carbs. MSD distributor, doug ti-y headers. Left the marine chrome oil pan and put a set of offy valvec covers on. some pictures.

Re: 62 impala

My wife owns a 62 that her Dad has some restoration work done on. It isn't perfect, but it looks real nice. We are LS2 swapping and putting it on air ride. Can't wait to be driving it again. Seeing yours has really made me miss ours.
