LQ4/ 4L60 question

Any issues running a 05 LQ4 and a 03 4L60 transmission?

I have a lead on a LQ4 and I can get a 4L60 and get it built cheaper than buying a stock 4L80. So I would like to know of any issues I am overlooking.

Thanks,

Steve

Define "built". The 80e outperforms most upgraded 60e's, especially in high tq and high weight applications. A real build on a trans with new internals, solenoids etc will usually run over ~$1k, not including the converter. That alone should be more than a stock 80e.

Unless your looking at something like a Monster trans or a piece from Jake's, most "built" 60'es are just a stock 60 with a shift kit, maybe some new clutches (usually stock), and adding a new converter.

The 60e's only advantage is less mass, and thusly a little less drivetrain loss at the rear wheel. Plenty of people use them, but the # of failure stories is well over 10:1 vs the 80.

Re: LQ4/ 4L60 question

I think I am leaning towards a 4L80 w/ a converter. From what I am reading a 4L80E stock will hold 600hp approx.

The Lq4 I was looking at was sold. So I am still in the market. I was just seeing if I could save some money by building a 4l60 I could aqquire cheap opposed to buying a low mile LQ4/4L80 combo.

I think it will be less hassle going for a Lq4/ 4L80 and putting a quality stall in it.

Any recommendations for a stall?

70 SWB
LQ4 with cam, headers, and tune.

Mostly street driven maybe some track time for fun.

Re: LQ4/ 4L60 question

I had a YANK stall in my LQ9 build (before the Ls3) and it's the BEST STALL CONVERTOR ON THE PLANET. Just kidding......It was / is a great stall and I would buy another one in a minute. Very pricey but, well worth the cost. I really can't say enough about it. Oh....I went T56 manual trans on the LS3 build in my nova but, I might be calling yank for new convertor when I do the LS3 swap in my 65 C10.....

With a $200 transgo HD-2 and a good ($$$$) converter, it will hold a lot more than that.
