Why Did GM Kill the Cargo Doors?

Thru the years we have owned 3 full sized Suburbans, two with the split cargo doors or barn doors if you prefer and one with the split tailgate. '82 had the electric roll down window and an '88 and '91 with the cargo doors.

When no longer had a need for a Suburban as the kids grew and left the Mrs. and I bought our first Tahoe. A '99 4WD with cargo doors. Now have a '05 with the split raise up hatch, half window open or full lift hatch. I really would have preferred the cargo doors but seems GM quit offering them at all some time around '06, end of that body style run.

I'm sure it has to do with counting all the beans and adding up the +s and -s on the tally sheet. The cargo doors are just so much easier to operate with your hands full. With a heavy load it's hard to balance the article on one leg and open the hatch. If the article is too big, can't be done by resting the load on the rear bumper since the hatch will hit it when you open up. Set it on the ground and open the hatch, lift the article and then load, close the hatch.

Guess I just hate to see an option that was very useable and worked quite well be tossed aside for no reason. Just a short rant I guess but I sure do miss those cargo doors.
