rechroming
Does anyone know a place that re-chromes. I have a set of chrome reverse wheels that my dad had on his 67 impala back in the day that I would like to get redone. I now have the car and would like to put the wheels back on it.

Re: rechroming
ditto on El Paso.i had some pieces done for my 67 Impala wagon at a big name shop, great job but very expensive.when i contacted them about doing the pieces for the 39 Chrysler i'm doing now and it was $6000.00 for the first load,i contacted Electro-Plating of El Paso, sent a bunch of pictures and their price was less than $2000.00.i shipped it all off, they called once they had the parts and said it would be what they said it would, and it was.the parts came back looking like a million bucks.i boxed up another load and off it went, parts got done and came back, again looking great except for 2 grille pieces i wasn't happy with, sent them back and they re-did them,no problem.i wouldn't hesitate to send them another load, once i get further along.

Re: rechroming
I used this place. I have never used a rechroming place ever before. I was happy with the items I got back, they were just the small Medallions that go on the seats. They were badly pitted, and I almost just threw them away. But I thought I would give it a try. Little pricey for such small items, but I guess it was better than just throwing them away.

Re: rechroming
I believe you will be able to buy new chrome reverse wheels for cheaper than rechroming old ones. I could be wrong, but when I inquired, years ago, about getting some wheels chromed (not rechromed) the places I talked to said they don't do wheels because of the labor involved compared to buying new. Things may have changed, but I'd be curious to see what you find out

Re: rechroming
special-K is right, you can buy them a lot cheaper than you can get them rechromed.
I just picked up a load of chromed parts from Whitworx at Lincoln, AR, east of Fayetteville. They did a great job.

Re: rechroming
Post a picture of the Impala. That's what I drove in high school.

Re: rechroming
Thru the years I have been able to get some small parts from a 4x4 transfer lever up to the front and rear bumpers for my 57 2dr sedan. (That was pricey $$ !) but then so was the whole restore, LOL. At one time I tried to get a set of four 15 x 7 Cragar Super Sports rechromed that were on my 71 Chevelle when I bought it. Love the look of Cragar Super Sports but not one of the three local shops we had then within a 100 mile radius would touch them. All three said because of the process to strip and heat the wheels during the rechome process there was too much of a possibility of changing the temper of the wheels and there fore would not even consider taking on the process. At that point I found a set of 15 x 7 and 15 x 8 GM rally wheels and trim rings for the Chevelle. Good luck in your search but as has been said, even if you find someone who will do the rechrome you could buy new for a lower cost.
