My 66 GMC project

I have a 66 GMC 1/2 ton long bed.
I am converting the trucks suspension to 3/4 ton mainly for braking and hauling reasons.
Yes I know the frame is still a half ton and understand all that. I pull trailers and don't like getting pushed through intersections, etc. hence the change.
As soon as I figure out how to post photos of the build ... I will..
Any other GMC guys here?

Re: My 66 GMC project

Welcome IronIndian

I have a 66 GMC and live in North Phoenix

Glad to see another 66 GMC in town. I plan to use my truck a tow rig for my S-10 race truck that I'm building. I thought about the 3/4T setup, but stuck with the 1/2T for now... You can check out my build by clicking the link in my signature.

It would be cool to see some pics of your truck and your build. Sounds like it will be a nice ride

So what are you doing with the 3/4 ton suspension?? If you are close I would buy your 3/4 ton stuff from you.

Re: My 66 GMC project

REALLY?
Someone may be coming my way???
I am an avid fan of the 3/4 ton trucks and have a couple of projects that have been sitting for years that I could use that suspension on.
To my family it is just a pile of parts. LOL
I am doing a secret build for my 14 year old son. Been collecting parts for a long while now. Want to get that one done so he can have it for his 16th birthday.
I'm such a glutton for punishment!

Re: My 66 GMC project

BTW,
The build on my 66 GMC is for a work truck. This truck will see mud at the dump, oily greasy parts in the bed, a receiver hitch that will have a trailer hooked to it most of the time and it will be worked hard.
While most of the builds I see here are painted and purdy, mine will be painted with road grime.
I have a 335 hp 400 pontac motor with 390 ft lbs of torque to do the pulling.
There is a 474 inch Poncho mill in my storage that I built over 10 years that will go in my future GMC hot rod.
The economy will have to turn around big time for me to start on the next truck.
