Hey y'all,

I need help for one rusted area in my '72 GMC burb. I have all of the other panels lined out, but I am having trouble with this one spot. It is the floorboard area next to the wall (where a 4th door would be) in the rear drivers side passenger area. It is rusted out just like the fronts are at the rocker panels.

How have others here replaced this section of floorboard? It's not rusted too bad, but it will need to be replaced. Can this be fixed from the top or do you have to go in from the driver's side exterior? And is there a panel that can be fitted for this area, or will I need to fab one? Thanks!

I'm having this problem as we speak. I'm not too sure what to do, hopefully somebody will have some ideas.

How about a couple of pictures to see what it looks like.
On my pickups that I had a similar problem I cut out the offending rust and made a cardboard template of what I needed it to look like. And then took the pattern and transfered it to the sheetmetal and then cut it out as needed.
Then go to a sheetmetal shop and get the metal bent as needed to fit. Be sure to leave it long going over the original floorpan so you can weld it in nicely.

I am looking at the same repair.

From what I can see it will have to be done from below to separate the inner rocker from the pinch weld at the base of the quarter panel.

The rest looks like it can be done from above.

The inner door panel area looks like it passes by the inner rocker and may be spot welded to the rocker pinch weld and/or to the inner rocker. Won't know for sure until I cut it open or someone else has some pics of the process.

By cutting from above first and removing the material all the way to the door panel skin you can find out how it is put together and how it has to be repaired and what order things need to be reassembled.

Well I have a floorpan out of a suburban, I saved it for a future crewcab project. And I haven't decided if I'll use it or not.

But for you needing to see what it looks like off of the truck here are a couple of pictures.

If I can help let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I have more pictures if needed.
