Re: Which exhaust to go with

I used Black Widow mufflers.

I like the sound, which is what they were designed for, only for the sound was important.
I used the venom 250, which are ok at idle and fairly loud with throttle.
I didn't go with the Neighborhater, Widowmaker or the Angry Housewife.
Frankly I love the marketing names. LOL
All are louder than the Venom 250 which I used.
All SS and made in the USA. \
I purchased mine for roughly $100 each.
Now the pricing for the Venom 250-series is $134.00 - $151.00 each
Cheers.

Re: Which exhaust to go with

OP

muffler choice is subjective as what "I" like vs you may be different. With that said a chambered muffler like Flowmaster 40's is the old school classic muscle car sound if that's what you like. Downside is drone on Hwy can be loud.

Straight through mufflers like MagnaFlo and Dynomax where the inner straight through tube is perforated and wrapped in fiberglass give more a mellow note vs a chambered type of muffler

FlowMaster, wanting a piece of the straight through muffler market, has introduced the "FX" series which is a straight through type but slightly louder than MagnaFlo or Dynomax. I swapped my 40's for the FX ($49 on Amazon IIRC) and like the note with my 383.

3" dual exhaust is on the large side for an SBC unless you are making 500+ HP as you give up low end TQ for a few more HP in the high RPM (read over 5k) band. If doing OTA pipe behind mufflers dropping to 2 1/2" pipe is an alternative

Re: Which exhaust to go with

Have had true dual Flowmaster 40 Series on mine for almost 20 years. Stock 350/TH350/Quadrajet setup. No headers, full length, 2.5" to 3" tips. Can confirm that they are loud but I love the sound. As the previous poster said, it's all personal preference. I don't drive it a lot and don't do a ton of highway miles. If I did I would probably opt for something more mellow.

Re: Which exhaust to go with

my stock 327 with 40's sounded good but when I went headers built 357 the 40's became obnoxis on the fwy. yelling to talk with anyone in car. The Flowmaster FX though tamed it down without making it to mellow...for me
