14 Bolt Rear End questions

So I'm currently in the market for a SRW 14Bolt Rear End and I've read a few forums and Pirate 4X4 sites and just wanted to get some input.

I'm looking to purchase a 14bolt SRW out of a 88-98 OBS, and was curious if I would have any issues with it fitting a 1985 C30 or should I continue my hunt for a 73-87 SRW?

I'm sure this is out there, but I've not had any luck so far. Thanks everyone

Re: 14 Bolt Rear End questions

You will need to verify what I’m typing

But

I know there are different widths of these axles depending on whether the donor truck was a dually, a fleet side, or a cab chassis.

Also I’m almost positive the spring perches were further outbound on the 88-99 generation trucks. The frames were wider

So with that said I think there are about 5 different axles that at first glance look the same

The spring perches are different spacing between square body and OBS. Not a big deal if you can weld, but not bolt in.

Re: 14 Bolt Rear End questions

The only reason I would go with the later axle would be to widen my rear end track width.

It will need new spring mounts, and the shock mounts relocated.

I have done it with the 14 bolt SF, and it takes a bit of work. To get it to line up, but I was happy with the results. Prefect rear stance while being able to rotate tires all with out spacers.

Re: 14 Bolt Rear End questions

Just a heads up .

2wd and 4wd have different shock mount positions.

And there is 3/4ton will not bolt in to 1ton as they have the wider spring spacing .

There is 3/4 ton crew cab 2wd that is 1ton under its body .

Re: 14 Bolt Rear End questions

To clarify, one ton trucks (or 30 series) have spring perches at 40.5” while 3/4” ton trucks have spring spacing at 42.5”

Is this measurement center to center?
