Sooo.... in 2016 I was working in Kuwait; and one night I got a little click happy on ebay and bought a 1972 K10 in Sacramento California.

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

Fortunately, the former owner agreed to store the truck for me until I got back to the USA. So in January of 2017; my dad, my brothers and I loaded up on tools and spare parts and headed from Kansas to California.

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

We ditched the lame camper, did a little tune-up work in the Best Western parking garage, and headed for Kansas.

Naturally, we stopped for gas, refreshments, and a few minor repairs.

Of course, we couldn't drive through Arizona without taking a few scenic detours; we had to stop and see the Grand Canyon.

We took a little cruise on Route 66, and stopped to see the petrified forest and the painted desert.

Of course, if you drive north in January, the weather is going to go south. After 6 days on the road, we rolled back into Kansas with a great new truck!

The plan is to repair the sheet metal damage, rebuild the drivetrain, give it a few tasteful off-road enhancements and drive it with the original paint for awhile. We'll see how far down the rabbit hole we end up going

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

Let's get this party started with a little archeology. It was built in the Fremont plant in February of 1972. It's a custom deluxe package with 350 engine, 4 speed manual, 3.73 rear end. The engine has been replaced, but everything else seems to be original

Great Deal that the build sheet is still there

There was a spot on mine where you could tell it used to be

Awesome score! I’m in to see this one!

Any chance you could post your actual build date from your build sheet so I can add it to our build date project?? We are keeping a running numerical order by plant based on the build sequence of the truck vin.

Ok, I extracted the build sheet as carefully as I could. The truck was built on February 01, 1972, which was a Tuesday. It was billed to Caddel Chevrolet in Roseville, California; just outside of Sacramento. VIN is CKE142Z138574

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

I decided to start with the most important system on the truck...the brakes! I couldn't bear to throw away an original set of Delco calipers, so I decided to rebuild the calipers and cylinders myself. First time doing this; very straightforward and parts were cheap. I can always downshift if they fail : )

Further down the rabbit hole. Rear differential fluid change uncovered a chewed up carrier and a grooved axle, so now it's got a Yukon positrac, new axles, ring and pinion gears.

Computer bit the dust over the winter, just got a new one; time to upload some progress! Hacked out the inner/outer rockers, forward cab floors, and mount support plates. Rolled the whole mess outside and blasted all of the hidden joint areas and weld seam edges.
