Re: New addition

It was my Mom and Dads truck. 82,400 miles. Very much like new. I have been wanting a sport side for a long time but wouldn't swing on anything I found. This one is the one.

Re: New addition

If you decide to part I'd like first shot at the...

Very nice truck. I love the 88-98s almost as much as 67-72s. I see them in the same way only 20 years more modern. They don't seem so modern and complicated compared to what's 20 years newer now. They are the last trucks built with just a plain old steel bumper that spanned across the frame rails below the grille to the outer edge.

Get used to correcting people calling it a Stepside. I've been doing it for years. I usually say, "This is a Sportside" and usually add, "87 was the last Stepside"

Re: New addition

Wow Boog, that's a beauty! I echo Tim's comments, the 88-98's are great trucks. Right in the sweet spot of being "old" trucks that have modern touches (EFI, etc.). But not too many to make them overly complicated.

Exactly!
While driving it around yesterday I thought it ran much like the old carb'd 350s, just a little cleaner. Whole different feel than our newer trucks.
Best part of this truck is I know it's history and it has not been restored.

Had to come back and take a look at those photos again. Dang, I am jealous. That is probably one of the best examples of a clean OBS truck around these parts. Super glad you could keep it in the family and a great home.

Re: New addition

Thanks. I am stoked to have it. It is by pure coincidence that this 91 truck and their 91 Cadillac were nearly the same color and trim. I sold their Caddy 3 years ago with only 39,000 miles.

Re: New addition

That is not only super nice, it looks like a time-capsule too. Plus you know it's entire history, can't get any better unless you bought it yourself and mothballed it for decades.
Agreed, this is a great generation of trucks, modernized to the point of fuel injection but not over-the-top in complexity yet.

And overdrive. These trucks run right along with the rest just fine. They are very aerodynamic. That was what I remember noticing when I first started riding in them. No wind noise. Great side window visibility. The rear springs are much longer than prior years and it shows in the ride.

Re: New addition

I'm a big fan of the OBSs. That looks like a really clean truck. Does it have the stainless steel adhesive panels below the trim line or is it another color?

Re: New addition

Two thoughts I had with those stainless panels, since I kind of feel the same way - don't dislike them terribly, but not my favorite. One would be to get 320 grit sandpaper and run it horizontally to give it a brushed look. Another would be some quality time with a hair dryer. Maybe a heat gun if the adhesive doesn't soften up enough, but you don't want to get the paint underneath soft.with a set of plastic trim tools, you could probably warm it up, start prying it up, and use the heat from a hair dryer to keep them going 'til they come off.

If I purchased that truck new and still owned it, Im embarrassed to say it would be trashed inside. Im just not good about keeping the inside of my vehicles that clean.

Re: New addition

When we were kids we weren't allowed to eat or drink in the family car. It ruins the interior. One can ask, who were they saving it for? To my Dad, a well kept car was always worth more at trade in or sale. He was a car salesman most all of his life and he is right. Remember when people bought a new car and opted for those hard clear plastic seat covers? It was a thing in the 60's.
It's obvious this truck has not been used like most. My parents bought it after they retired.

Period correct, though. I am from that period and I always thought they looked pretty sharp.

Looking at pics of your truck gives me a queasy feeling... because I wanted one of those so badly in high school and I never could afford one. Now that I can afford one, I don't know that I will ever find one as original as yours. Beautiful truck, congratulations.
